Someone who isn't demisexual could theoretically find something online that would aid them in their masterbatory activities, simply because they find them attractive.

Which is why every demisexual I've ever met constantly talks about fapping to the Doctor and Sherlock. Okay.

Well, Doctor Who and Sherlock do have personalities.

Meh, I'm not every demisexual you've ever met, so I can't answer that. I can simply answer, to the best of my knowledge what I know. Maybe they feel like they've gotten an emotional connection with those characters, maybe they're not actually demisexual, or maybe they're lying so that other people don't think they're weird for not 'fapping' to anyone/thing.

Maybe it's none of your business. <3

They're only into their personalities. It's a coincidence that they're found to be hot by sexuals who are capable of being attracted to body alone, even without those hints at personality that come through in facial and body expression!

I think the term sets people off because it is so fuzzy and amorphous as to be useless. Genderqueer strikes me as the same.

+1 on genderqueer. I'm non-binary and I just can't bring myself to call myself genderqueer because most of the people I see using it are totally okay with being perceived as their assigned-at-birth gender and just want to show how kewl they are for smashing the binary. Meanwhile here I am dysphoric as fuck no matter how I get read =\

It just sounds so wide open. I haven't seen a definition that doesn't boil down to personal preference in labels rather than actual traits. By some definitions, anyone who goes against gender norms is genderqueer. Er, hence bringing it up in a demi thread. Wide open label.

Yeah, the only person who can define you is you, but that winds up meaning that labels only mean anything individual to individual. It drags communication down unless you discard labels completely and ask after specifics (only)when they're appropriate.

--Yep, they wind up meaning nothing. I figure, if you want concrete information you need to discard labels and ask for specifics.

Out of curiosity, do you think the same of bisexuals who are in relationships with people of the opposite sex?

(Anonymous) 2011-09-15 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
da

Those are pretty different situations. In any case, but for, like, one, all the bisexuals I've known are in m/f relationships and frequently bring up their bisexual identity. The one in the f/f relationship constantly name drops the label too. M'thinking not facing solid oppression makes showing the label a priority. And being with a dude doesn't disprove bisexuality, there are just more dudes out there to form connections with!

(Anonymous) 2011-09-15 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
I don't understand your point, sorry. Previous anon said that they don't approve of genderqueer people who are okay with being perceived as their birth gender. Are you saying that it would be okay for a genderqueer person to be perceived as their birth gender so long as they continually announced their genderqueerness?

(Anonymous) 2011-09-15 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
I'm saying I'm used to seeing bisexuals who are not okay being perceived as straight or gay, hence the announcing.

And not getting your second sentence. If they announce it, they aren't okay with their gender being assumed. They might not be okay with it if they say nothing either.

Could you clarify what you meant by this sentence please?

(Anonymous) 2011-09-15 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
M'thinking not facing solid oppression makes showing the label a priority.

Obviously, I can't speak for any other bisexuals' experience, but one of the main reasons I'm as out about my sexuality as I am is that I've had way too many people who assume that I'm straight think that it's totally cool to start saying really hateful homophobic and biphobic things when they're talking to me. And I just can't deal with that horrible, punched-in-the-gut feeling I get from realizing that the person I'm talking to, this person who I thought was a friend or at least someone who respected me, actually thinks I'm sick and wrong, and they just don't realize they're talking about me. Being really upfront about my sexuality makes these encounters much less frequent and helps me stay sane.

You cut your quote off mid-sentence. Go back and re-read.

[identity profile] baka-deshi.livejournal.com 2011-09-15 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
Bingo. I don't personally feel comfortable identifying as "genderqueer" because it feels too 'fuzzy' to actually explain my situation (though people try to slap me with it constantly) :P
