The Muppets were never supposed to be aimed just at children, and when Jim was still alive, they never were. Watch the original Muppet Show. Watch The Muppet Movie. Fuck, watch The Storyteller. Sure, kids can watch them and love them. Are they aimed at kids? ...not really.

Related, I've struggled with lifelong depression since childhood as well. If you have something that helps you cope, and works nicely almost every time, *cherish* it. I don't care if it's embarrassing or stupid or annoying, as long as it's legal and not hurting anybody (including yourself), keep it around. Depression is *damn* hard and we need all the help we can get. Having a song that makes you happy is wonderfully innocuous, and even better, this one is loved by almost everybody I've ever known.

I hope that as you get older, your depression becomes more manageable and you find many more things that bring you joy.

I will love the Muppets until forever. I will be 80 and still squeeing over them. And what other people have said is right-- the older Muppets are not really for kids. There's some fabulous adult humor in there.

You are NEVER too old to love the Muppets. EVER. I'm 31 years old, grew up with them (and still remember where I was when I first heard that Jim died ;_;), and still love them!

And The Rainbow Connection is one of those songs I grew up with too. My dad used to sing it to me as a lullaby on his guitar when I was little, and it holds a special place in my heart for that very reason...even more so after my dad unexpectedly passed away at the end of last year.

dude, it's a song about hope and finding your place in this world and you're never to old to find joy or strength in something like that. For being so wacky and zany, the Muppets have a ton of heart to them and there are a lot of lessons one can garner there. Two things:

One, as many others have pointed out, there is no such thing as 'too old for Muppets.' Full stop.

Two, if the depression you're dealing with is as bad as you say, please trust me when I tell you that it is not a sign of weakness or failure to get help for it. I know exactly what that burden of sorrow that you can't seem to put down is like, and after getting therapy and taking meds (don't need them anymore now, but I still take supplements) let's just say I have a lot more Rainbow Connection moments now than I did when I was younger. :) Good luck.
