Nev is the most Gryffindor of all the Gryffindors! I will always think that he was more of a hero than Harry was.

Okay, I love Neville, but... how? Harry gave up his childhood, his security, often his reputation and popularity, and in the end his entire life just because he thought it was right. Neville was a wonderful guy and he was immensely brave in DH, but c'mon... he didn't even do a fraction of what Harry did.

I think Harry gets far too much crap in fandom...

Maybe it's my dislike of Harry showing through. He just always kinda annoyed me. To me it seemed he always acted like it was just him against the world when really if it was just him he would have probably been killed his first year at Hogwarts.

Because it's only bravery if it's obvious, amirite? The nameless, faceless people out there standing up for their friends, families, beliefs, countries, etc. - they aren't brave or heroes or anything. Only the people who get the headlines are worthy of praise.

And most of the things Harry did (whining the entire time while pushing his friends away repeatedly) were because he was forced to, because Voldemort and Dumbledore decided he was special and so targeted him. Neville and many of the other characters of both generations chose to fight; they were the ones who recognized some things were important and the right thing to do, no matter the cost or danger. IMO, Harry gets just as much crap as he deserves.

This. Harry had to fight back, because he had no other choice, Voldemort wasn't gonna stop going after him. But Neville did have a choice. He could have just sat back and done nothing, waiting for the fighting to be over or he could have even gone over to side that seemed to be winning at the moment. But he didn't, he decided to fight back, risking his own life and that of his friends even when he didn't have too.

If you look at it like that then Nevilles choice to fight against Voldemort is braver then Harry's, because Neville did risk everything.

Harry had a lot of self-confidence and self-belief to start with (surprisingly, given his upbringing) and a taste for trouble and thirst for adventure. Neville was cowed, shy, intimidated right from the start...and he did what he did *despite* this. They had different personalities. Bravery was simply harder for Neville; he had more inherent disadvantages to overcome.

I'm not knocking Harry's considerable achievements, but Neville was surely at least as amazing; he had to fight a battle with *himself* before he could even start to fight the enemy. And he did it without the the support structure Harry had, without the recognition and the fame, with, in fact, everybody knocking him and treating him like he was useless. From the moment Harry entered Hogwarts everyone *expected* him to be gifted and special, one of the beautiful people, while Neville had to overcome being branded as an awkward, ineffectual loser, and worse, having internalised this as a self-identity. Neville fought a bigger battle than the one against Voldemort - and he won.

tl;dr Neville is badass :)
