I really, REALLY hope that's the case. Either way, I can't see them just being all, 'Yeah so let's get this LADY and her VAGINA of this film because she's a LADY.' I mean, Darla Anderson has been an extremely important member of the studio and production team since the beginning (I think-- I don't remember if she was part of the original crew, but I know she was there very early) and she's done amazing things as a producer.

I think (or hope) that whatever the reason was that they removed her from the project was labeled as a misogynist thing because of the movie itself. It's continually noted that it's nearly Miyazaki-ish in vision, with a female princess AND hero that happens to be the same character, which is new for Western audiences. The fact that it was originally conceived by a woman made it even better, and then to suddenly see her off the project was a big blow to that credibility. Either way, I remain cautiously optimistic about Brave, because it looks beautiful.

'Yeah so let's get this LADY and her VAGINA of this film because she's a LADY.'

That's an extreme oversimplification of how misogyny in the industry works, and depends on an idea that people target women knowing that they're targeting women, and not, you know, subconsciously judging a woman more harshly / hassling her / not working well with her / taking her less seriously / misunderstanding simple comments for bitchiness / etc etc etc. More things go into the whole sexism problem than a fixation on the obvious. It's not "she has a vagina, GET HER" so much as "She's a woman, and because she is a woman I have to take everything she says with a grain of salt / assume she is prone to mood swings and disregard her opinion / judge everything she says and weigh them against what I personally deem appropriate / assume she is incapable of performing to task / label her as uncooperative when she offers a dissenting opinion."

It's a million little things.
