So you don't want to play a game you think looks good...because you're afraid of liking it?

Um...that's fucking stupid.

[identity profile] green-glee.livejournal.com 2011-09-20 06:48 am (UTC)(link)
But they'll not be SPECIAL anymore :((((((((((((((((

[identity profile] juandalyn.livejournal.com 2011-09-20 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't finished ST yet, but I like it, too.
And OoT is... well, classic. You should try it.

[identity profile] lashiec.livejournal.com 2011-09-20 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
WEIRD LOGIC, BUT...

You've played the best Zelda (LINK'S AWAKENING) so I can see past it.

[identity profile] clairefable.livejournal.com 2011-09-20 09:41 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed!

[identity profile] tsunekipanda.livejournal.com 2011-09-20 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Well, a lot of people's first was OoC so that's probably why you see a lot of rave for it? My first was A Link to the Past and I still think it's a fantastic game and I love re-playing it.

Anyway, to not make this comment a tl;dr I think it's really up to you if you want to play it or not. Personally I thought Majora's Mask was better than OoT and Twilight Princess was just amazing and surpassed it. And don't get me started on Minish Cap, holy freck that game was fun! ♥

[identity profile] ryttu3k.livejournal.com 2011-09-20 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
Well, for the bonus secret, you're not alone - I LOVE Spirit Tracks, and if it wasn't for Ocarina, it probably would be my favourite.

...Which, uh, probably doesn't help XD;;

At least part of the Ocarina love for me, though, is that I've known and loved those characters for my entire adolescent years, and it was the first Zelda game I've played. Plus, it was COMPLETELY revolutionary when it was released - I remember watching the opening and going HOLY CRAP THE WATER LOOKS AMAZING - but it's since been technically exceeded in almost every aspect. Since you'll be looking at it without all that history, it may not be the same LOVE that others experience.

I'd give it a try :) It's an amazing game! So what if it doesn't become your favourite - I think it's one of those classic ones that everyone has to play at least once, if only for the experience. Good luck!

[identity profile] marshwiggledyke.livejournal.com 2011-09-20 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
but it's since been technically exceeded in almost every aspect.

The horse-physics are, yeah, kind of dodgy, but the one thing it has never been surpassed in in its genre is its solid, tight, game-design. It still stuns me as an adult that they crammed every inch of its layout with engaging, plot-related Things To Do and See.

Effects can get old. Design never dies.

Go on, play 'em all. Ocarina is fab and Majora's is wonderfully complex.

(Anonymous) 2011-09-20 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
Ignore what you've heard about OoT and MM and go into them how you've gone into all the other Zelda games. Since you seem to enjoy the series, then you will probably enjoy them as well. Expectations, whether they're high or low, can ruin an otherwise fun experience imho.

[identity profile] misscherri.livejournal.com 2011-09-20 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
That's such a silly reason to not play a game.

I wouldn't worry about it - who cares if you like it more? Just go into it with a clean mind and see what YOU think. I played OoT as a kid and I love it dearly, but Wind Waker is actually my favorite Zelda game, so who knows what you will think?

[identity profile] fivedayslater.livejournal.com 2011-09-20 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
I've noticed that a lot of people like their first Zelda game the best, like my first was Majora's Mask and that's my favorite. Since Zelda games are just awesome in general, I think what sets one apart from all the others is nostalgic value. Since you don't have that with OoT, I'm pretty sure you'd like it for what it is, an awesome game, but that won't automatically make it your favorite.

And if it does become your favorite, so what? There's nothing wrong with liking all the Zelda games I do.

[identity profile] lemon-m.livejournal.com 2011-09-20 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
I kinda get the logic, but there's no guarantee that oot will become your favorite. It isn't mine, if it helps. Besides, you don't need to have one single favorite zelda- the experiences you had with ST will always be there and no one's gonna point a gun to your head and make you choose if you have two favorites.

I loved ST too. It had trains, it had Link/Zelda hints, it had cool bosses, it was a sequel to WindWaker. It basically had everything I loved.

Dude, I went into OoT with over a decade of hype, and I was still not disappointed. It's fairly different from Spirit Tracks, though, so I think you'll probably enjoy it in a different way.

and I still haven't finished Majora's Mask because it scares me okay

[identity profile] keevacaereni.livejournal.com 2011-09-20 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
I've played five Zelda games, including OoT. Spirit Tracks is my favourite. OoT is good, but I just prefer the handheld games.

[identity profile] mistaria.livejournal.com 2011-09-20 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, Spirit Tracks is the only one I've not been able to finish because I got so annoyed with it. GAH STUPID TRAIN.

[identity profile] okapifeathers.livejournal.com 2011-09-20 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
my first game was OoT but my favorite is Wind Waker. anyway, i can play either of them infinitely and never get tired of them. i have yet to play spirit tracks but that's because of time issues. otherwise i've pretty much played all zelda games save for the CDi monsters and stuff like tingle's rupee land.

basically that's a silly reason to not play a game you think looks good. by that logic, you should never play any zelda games ever again. which is dumb because all of them are excellent. seriously, give OoT a try. i'm part of the crew who think it's the best zelda game yet (not my favorite. like i said, Wind Waker).

[identity profile] silvertongue1.livejournal.com 2011-09-20 06:12 am (UTC)(link)
You loved ST (and enjoyed PH) but haven't played Wind Waker? Given that those two games use a lot of flavor from WW, give it a try! Then go for the rest.
For the record, WW is my very favorite, but I've found lots of things to enjoy in the other Zelda games, too. There's nothing wrong with appreciating different installments for their own merits. It's like having more than one favorite TV show.

[identity profile] ladraove.livejournal.com 2011-09-20 06:54 am (UTC)(link)
Sometimes I think that the extreme love people have for OoT is more of the nostalgia factor than anything else, to be honest. I mean, I loved the game and all, but for me the nostalgia love is directed at Link's Awakening because that was the first Zelda game I ever played.

More on subject, I really liked ST as well. So don't worry, you're not alone. :)

Anon, your first game usually sticks with you. My first Zelda was "A Link to the Past" and it's still my favorite. Well, it might share the first place with OoT and TP now, but it wasn't ousted ;)

Play it! I swear you won't regret it. You will only gain a game more that you love <3

[identity profile] yukinoomoni.livejournal.com 2011-09-20 02:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I LOVED SPIRIT TRACKS. But for some reason, Minnish Cap will always be my favourite. I DO NOT KNOW WHY.

I've played (though never actually finished) (-_-);; OoT, and I own ST and PH, and ST is still my fav, so do whatever you want, if you like it, you do, if you don't you don't, and that's okay!

Nah, you're not the only one who loves ST. I really liked it, too. Not as much as I like OoT and MM, to be honest, but I still really liked it.

[identity profile] sairei.livejournal.com 2011-09-22 02:37 am (UTC)(link)

I love Spirit Tracks! I know you're going to get a lot of flack from being turned off a bit from OoT and MM because of the over-zealous, large chunk of the fandom, but I feel the same. I'll give them a shot eventually whenever a 3DS improvement is made. I played a bit of Oot and MM with my friend so I'm interested in them. But yeah I really understand the "I want to play them but..."

Being scared of another game topping your favorite is also understandable, I think. I'd feel weird if a game rivaled my undying love for Wind Waker.
