I actually find parts of it strangely relaxing, for some reason.

Me too, actually. Wandering around the snow world and the neon world, especially. It definitely has it's share of genuinely unnerving shit, but there's alot of surreal beauty in it too.

The mutilated corpses and body parts did freak me out, but yeah, the snow world was gorgeous, and some parts like the desert, the park and the final fantasy-esque overworld were sort of pretty too, and I kind of wanted to see more of them. The ones with the numbers and weird-ass geometry weren't that interesting to me. The mall part had potential.

Say, I remember hearing that the current version isn't the final. Have there been any news about future versions?

I'm not 100% sure. I think part of it may be all the theories I read on TV tropes though that pushed it past the point where I can enjoy it.

I think it's disturbing because the main character is so young and alone, and to know that that's what's floating around inside her subconscious... :(

I also subscribe to the hypothesis that the game's setting is a post-apocalyptic world, and Madotsuki is seeking refuge in her dreams and refusing to leave the apartment for fear of being devoured by monsters. (Her apartment has been ravaged, already, if you check out the dimensions there's only enough horizontal space for her room. HER DOOR OPENS INTO NOTHINGNESS. Also, the sky looks... apocalyptic like. There is no life outside, there is no TV signal and that's why you can only access her crappy videogame.

Interesting. I'm a huge horror fan as well, but I just couldn't get into it for some reason.

I'm actually kind of the opposite, OP. I'm not all that big into typical/traditional horror stuff with lots of gore/jump-scares/etc, but I absolutely love psychological and atmospheric horror, and creepypastas. Yume Nikki is one of my favorite games ever with just how spooky and weird and resultingly fun, unique interesting it is. I just love the whole idea of wandering around and exploring eerie and bizarre worlds, never quite knowing exactly what you'll find next.

I downloaded it the other day but after this secret I'm a little afraid to play it... but I still want to.

(Not that I ever seem to make time to do stuff besides wasting time on the internet, but that's my problem... XD)

Did I imply that I liked the gore stuff rather than just not caring about it either way? Ooops.

Because what you said you liked is more my thing.

I just wanna say I think this game is boring as fuck and I don't understand the praise it gets/how people say their freaked out by it. Not saying your opinion is wrong or whatever, but I legitimately cannot even imagine how this game can be scary or disturbing.

I have to agree, honestly. I got all excited about it after hearing glowing reviews about how profound and interesting it was but... in the end it just gave me a headache and bored me.

I love the game since the quirky adventure genre is a favourite of mine, but I agree about it hardly being as creepy as it gets made out to be. Any of the so-called scary moments practically require a walkthrough to come across, so any sense of anxiety is spoiled beforehand.

There's no threat or risk either, so I guess you'd have to really depend on atmosphere (despite being an rpgmaker game).

.flow was a lot better.

If you're that effected by Yume Nikki, then don't get into .flow. Really. Because you end up with stuff like this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xoti8I-aDo&feature=player_detailpage#t=89s). .flow is by far, the most bloody and gory out of all the Yume Nikki games.

If you want something lighter, check out Lcddem! It's a quick game and is actually prettier and less scary than the others. I recommend it. :3c
