You know, just reading your secret makes me think that you already had an issue with your weight before you liked him. If you're mainly motivated to lose weight for your own reasons, then having someone as inspiration isn't a bad thing, I think. If you're OK with your body but losing weight JUST for him, THAT'S the bad part, IMO.

[identity profile] hiyami.livejournal.com 2011-10-22 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreeing with this.
If it motivates you and you're happy with the end result (and not getting unhealthily underweight), the reason is less important than the result IMO.

Also, feminism (or anything other ideal in "ism") that would prevent you from doing something good for your health or life in general? Is probably not done the way it should.

I'd figure feminism attempts to make women's lives better, not to put YET ANOTHER STRAIN on what they ought to achieve in life to be considered as "bona fide women"...

Fisting KURT is not about penetration, nor is it to do with the superfice - it's to do with occupation of a space, with becoming joined, with swallowing not piercing... not to mention there's nothing to for KAROFSKY to penetrate, the anus being a hole that has never represented absence - to the contrary often over-flowing fullness but in bodily terms the muscle is the only thing to be penetrated and yet it opens up to the fist, providing more space, schlurping around KAROFSKY'S digits... to pierce the flesh with a sword or a bullet is to damage and destroy, to make a hole where none was before; whereas fisting, if done properly, is to make a whole where there was just hole in KURT before.

I think you're replying to the wrong comment.

No, I keep seeing this around. They're just spamming random comments with it.

Pet peeve:
Loose = not tight
Lose = misplace or fail to keep something

There's nothing wrong or anti-feminist about wanting to be more attractive (provided it's doctor-approved and done in a healthy manner).

As a woman, I typically see two types of feminism-- people who want gender equality and people who want to put women to be better than men. I feel like both genders equally wish to be attractive, though there is greater social pressure on women than there is on men.

Since you admit you don't ever think it'll happen, I feel like your desire to be attractive when meeting "Mr. Right" is more a desire to form a good impression on a perspective companion. Though they are probably less ready to admit it, I'm sure many men have a bikini picture that is their workout motivation. Since it's a fairly gender-nonspecific action, I don't think it's particularly anti-feminist. Besides, if you lose the weight that has been plaguing you, I'm sure you'll feel more confident. And isn't the state of confidence in oneself part of what you're hoping to promote in the idea of gender equality?

Being a feminist doesn't mean "not having any human flaws." FWIW I'm male and also trying to take some of the pounds off my middle, and also doing it in the hope that it might make me more attractive to potential partners. Someone could say we're insecure, and they could also say that that's a flaw, but having that insecurity has nothing to do with believing that women and men should get equal opportunities and equal respect, which is what makes us feminists.

[identity profile] megalomaniageek.livejournal.com 2011-10-22 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree with the above commenter that it sounds like you're losing it for you, not for him. If you're happy with your body but think he might disapprove, then that's doing it for him. If those 20 lbs make you unhappy then that's it.

I'm just glad you have a goal. I see a lot of people who intend to just lose and lose and lose and lose until their self esteem magically appears. My advice is to strive for your goal and think hard about exactly what you want and expect before setting another.

LOL Changmin fans.

Jokes aside, OP, at least you're getting fit. I would never ever in a million years openly admit to anyone my reasons for wanting to lose weight. I have some really sweet fandom friends who want to meet up with me for the next World Cup in 2014, and...every time I want to eat something really bad for me or when I want to give up on working out, I think about how I would look compared to them, and that inspires me to work harder at losing weight. It's really stupid and it reflects on an insecure part of me that I don't show my RL friends, who all think I'm perfectly happy accepting my plus size body. But I want my fandom friends to believe that I'm not the stereotypical fat fangirl since from the photos we've all exchanged they're all much thinner than me. Insecure anon is insecure.

changmin is so cute.

if you're doing it because YOU want to look nice and you aren't comfortable in the body you're living in, then i don't see the problem. it's good to have some sort of motivation for a goal you're trying to achieve, it makes it easier to work toward.

Hmm, I'm a bit like this tbh. My motivation to lose weight wasn't cos of Changmin but cos my friend suggested diet pills to me one day and I got so offended I decided to lose weight through exercise just to prove her wrong. But whatever the motivation, losing weight the healthy way is always a good thing. Now I'm back to the weight I was when I was in high school. I feel really good about myself.

But yeah I know how you feel. If I ever get the chance to meet Changmin or Yunho I'd like it to be a day when I look my best.

(Actually I find them inspiring because we know from various interviews that they've had battles with their weight themselves. Nice to know that they're only human, like us.)

Are you trolling? You can't be a feminist if you like k-pop.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-23 11:16 am (UTC)(link)
lol mte

[identity profile] msloserrific.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 07:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Why? I'm seriously wondering, because I have extremely limited knowledge about k-pop. Is it different than say, American pop?
