Same here. I do like indie comics because they're by necessity short and actually get to the point, but I can't stand testosterone soaps like X-Men, etc that go on and on forever in various AUs and crossovers and reboots. In movie form, the writers are required to actually write a story with a story arc. So those I tend to enjoy.

See also: male gaze. You can cram a lot of objectification into a PG-13 movie, but you're at least limited by actual human biology. In superhero comics, the women are often so grossly, unnaturally objectified that I find the rest of the comic unreadable.

ALL OF THIS THREAD.

And the fucking phonetic accents, they are so annoying. Most of what they attempt isn't even phonetically correct either (or they've confused dialect with phonetics, and 99% of the time it's the wrong dialect). And the fucking asswipe fans who then copy that shitty writing in their fanfic.

Dear canon and fan writers. Stop it.

Yes, because the men in Superhero comics are so realistic, aren't they? Most of them really tall, broad and unnatural beefy. But i see, we are only supposed to point out the problems we have with the portrayel of women, never mind the fact how many women fap to the men in comics.

I think I'd find this argument more convincing if the fan service was presented in the same way. Men in comics rarely have their asses perfectly framed by a panel, and spend significantly less time posing in lingerie for no apparent reason. For example a female in a bathing suit may be posed differently than a male, even if the two appear in the same scene. Men in comics are idealized, but (with the possible exception of Dick Grayson!) they are typically less sexualized and objectified. That shouldn't be too surprising, given that they are still typically written by men and drawn by men with a male readership in mind.

Thank you for throwing in the Dick Grayson exception. For every Grayson being objectified, there's about fifty Starfires getting the cheesecake treatment >>.<<

True enough.

Finding a character sexy is never a bad thing; it doesn't matter who is attracted to who. Objectifying them is, and it happens a lot more to female characters than to males. (Drawing/representing someone unrealistically does not necessarily mean objectification.) Sadly, objectifying women is a norm in our society, and it does get semi-unconsciously rendered into the media.

I would rather people point out the problems they see; makes it easier to find what needs to be corrected. If you have a beef with the beef, then you should be able to say so. It's not a matter of sexual objectification though, as I doubt the artist/anticipated audience sees these male characters in that way.

Male superheroes are drawn as male self-wish fulfillment. Big. Manly. Virile. Things they want to be. Female superheroes are drawn as male object-wish fulfillment. Sexually available. Attractive. Not self-empowered in her own sexual desirability. Things they want to possess. Men are glorified. Women are prizes to be won by glorified men.

The argument that male and female superheroes are both physically idealized and thus equivalent is completely spurious. One need only look at home the women are written and drawn in the panels and how the men are written and drawn to see how ridiculous this assertion is.

I agree with you anon (I mean, kinda). I think the dudes in comics look just as weird as the chicks. I don't get it. Any of it. Objectively I can see how some people (apparently a LOT of people) would argue that it's stylized, or something? But to me chicks that are about to topple over cause they're so top-heavy, and guys that have thighs the size of tree trunks? Yeah, I don't find ANY of that attractive.

As far as "how many women fap to the men in comics?" Obviously there are some. But yeah, it's not, like, close to how many men fap over the females in comics. But I guess that if you want to claim that you feel objectified by comics, I would support you.
