I don't think that's what she meant, but the way the sentence was structured that's what it reads like.

And the human rights stuff she is referring to the English-speaking fanbase where homophobia etc is still prevalant. I think.

Not entirely sure, but it kinda seems like the OP is also calling the fanbase stupid, too. Because they're young, and not Western, I guess? I'm neither young nor non-Western, but I feel kind of offended as someone who was once young and still...cares about other human beings.
