Cause she's brunette? IDK. The old design is uglier IMO (her eyes are too close together), I guess OP thinks "ugly" = tomboy or something

I don't think she's ugly. I think she's just as cute and feminine-looking as Elena, which is why this secret has me so terribly confused.

Of course they do, but come on, long hair is still a stereotypically female attribute.

Short hair is for boys, long hair is for girls. Switch that up and some people will still call you a tomboy/dyke or princess/fag.

I.... guess so. I personally would never assume someone was butch just because she had short hair. Unless it was, like, shaved or spiked into a mohawk or something. Even then she might just be punk or goth.

I'd also never assume a long-haired man was effeminate. If anything, only the manliest of men seem to want to grow their hair out.

I guess it depends on the guy. My mom is convinced half of the men in the posters on my wall are women. And hell, one of them is freaking Brad Pitt.

Probably because Elena herself is a fairly tomboyish character. (Tomboyish in the sense that she doesn't mind getting dirty and jumping around the jungle with Drake). So the short cropped hair and more gender neutral outfit of the original design would definitely give off "tomboy" vibes.
