You know what's bad, though? I work with dudes who, like me, play games and were especially looking forward to Arkham City. (I haven't gotten it yet, nooooo low bank account!) And when they revealed Harley and Selina's costumes and everything, I mentioned the issue of having to constantly have tits shoved in my face, and the response I got? "Well, it's really a guy thing/game, you wouldn't understand."

I know I'm switching Selina's skin as soon as I can, though. I love those two costumes anyway. (I adore the one she wears too, but I prefer it zipped up-- you know, for sneaking around and not being seen??)

MTE on the costume - I love that particular design for her, and I even understand wanting to unzip it, but when you are leaping around and whip-flying through the city, and punching all the thugs, don't you really want to zip that up, if for no other reason that a little support?

Pretty much. I find nothing wrong thugs being thugs, but my real problem is just the image women have in this game is pretty... typical. Always emphasis on the 'sexy': Catwoman, 50/50 sexy and badass. Harley, 50/50 sexy and psychotic. Poison Ivy 50/50 sexy and dangerous. Even the villains have to also rub it in, 'oh she's so sexy i'd have to rape her.' It just screams 'HI THIS GAME IS FOR GUYS'

But, the source material is old, thus the old role of women prevalent... and their majority audience is male, so I'm not sure why I'm surprised. Disappointed, but only if I think about it too hard.

let me add, it really doesn't help the position catwoman takes when she's crawling around screams 'LOOK AT MY ASS I AM READY FOR ANAL'

See, I wouldn't have minded the constant rape or "she's hot, i want to bang her" comments if there were some female thugs in the game too. Make it an even playing field. If the male inmates want to fuck Catwoman or Harley, there should be female inmates who want a go with Bruce Wayne or Jack Ryder or whoever. Make the female characters just as fucked up as the males. No pointless sexualization. Just horrible thuggish women who are as awful as their male counterparts.

Though IMO the pointless sexualization of the female characters bothered me more than the rape references. Because it seemed like the primary reason for the female villains' existence was to be sexy THEN to be the villains they are supposed to be. I can look past Ivy being dressed in almost nothing because that is her shtick. But why is Catwoman's breasts practically falling out of her top? Isn't wearing a full-body leather Catsuit considered sexy anymore? :/
And why is Harley dressed as some sort of Hot Topic reject with an outfit clearly made for someone in their preteens? Part of Harley's appeal as a character is that she is a psychotic woman under the guise of an innocent cutie. Her idea of "sexy" and "villanous" is a form-fitting leotard that resembles a court jester's outfit. Not...whatever the hell she was wearing in the game.

I'd bet small bills that the order to dress Harley like that came down from the top. She bears quite a resemblance to the one in the DC reboot. -_-

THIS. Every time I see Catwoman it throws me right out of the game, it's so unnecessary. Catwoman seems to be falling prey to the same old "sexual liberation" excuse - it's ok to objectify her because she likes being sexy!

If she owned her own sexuality I'm pretty sure she'd zip up her top while kicking ass, it's not like the skintight leather distracts from her looks.
