You'd like Film Critic Hulk's take on this then:

Here (http://filmcrithulk.wordpress.com/2011/10/21/hulk-vs-arkham-city-round-2-bitches-be-trippin/) he offers a rebuttal for all the "BUT IT'S REALISTIC/NOT MISOGYNISTIC IN CONTEXT/BAD GUYS ARE JUST DOUCHES/ETC" excuses.

I'm with you, OP. It's gratuitous and quite frankly so damn uncreative of the writing team.

His "how often did you see the Joker/Two Face argument" is an extremely weak one. They're an extremely different class of people/villain.

Harvey may have turned into a psychotic killer, but previous to his fall from sanity he was of a social class that wouldn't use such language. And while it is not unheard of for DAD sufferers to have one "proper" personality and one vulgar/profane one, Harvey never really read as that. He was simply an unhinged version of Harvey Dent when he was being murderous.

And the Joker's entire persona revolves around being indirect and confusing. He wouldn't be saying things like "OK, now I'm going to break your kneecaps and bash your head in" either. Hell, when he WAS physically acting violent towards a character, specifically Robin IIs, he was joking about whether a backhand or front-hand crowbar swing to the torso hurt more, indirectly mocking Jason's pain.

The thugs in question are hired muscle. The type that find wanton violence fun for its own sake. Not exactly known for their creativity. It's what they were written to be. Whether that was uncreative of the writing team or not is arguable.

I feel as though perhaps this is a topic that people could go around and around for days on, though.
