Poor Jimmy. He was probably ones of those nerdy kids who all the girls made fun of and was probably a virgin, not by choice, until he married his wife.

Now Castiel takes over his body and everyone wants to bang him.

He's probably yelling, "SERIOUSLY?" every time someone calls Castiel in his body, "sexy." As in, "SERIOUSLY?? Where the hell were you when I was seventeen?"

OP, it is the way the viewers see them. The writers of fanfic take what they see in canon and write. We have seen Castiel for two solid seasons. Jimmy had one episode, and did not appear first. If someone looks at Castiel/Jimmy in canon, unless it is explicitly stated that it is Jimmy, everyone will think "Castiel!"

Plus, if the writers like Castiel, they'll write "Castiel's blue eyes", not "Jimmy Novak's beautiful blue eyes, that Castiel stole from him! What a dick!"

This, essentially. I really appreciate it if a writer includes a part of the fic to the subject of Castiel inhabiting Jimmy's body (though I do subscribe to the thought/belief that Jimmy himself died or has been in some kind of near-death coma-like state since Cas took his body back at the end of 'The Rapture,' which gives Cas about an equal 'ownership,' for lack of a better word, of the body), but I understand if the writer isn't going to devote time to it.

And also, it IS required that angels get permission before taking possession of a body, so...

there are a ton of fics with Dean angsting about this exact thing. Though, I have to agree, I'm always weirded out when people don't at least mention it.

Ah god, this makes me want to cry.

As much as I like Castiel, I've always hated him a little bit after The Rapture. And any fic/bit of canon where he hangs around just to eat pie and make out with someone makes me feel kind of icky, because Jimmy Novak signed up to help Castiel save the world, not suck face with Dean/whoever.

And he didn't even sign up for that in the end, just to save his daughter.

Yeah, just let me sit here and gush forever about the awesome bravery and completely screwed up fate of Jimmy Novak. Because I can and I will.

To me, Jimmy is one of the most tragic characters in SPN, all I could think about during the Season opener is his family watching the news and seeing his face being paraded about as someone who went on a murderous rampage. Jimmy Novak is probably the most screwed over character in the entire SPN franchise about.

This can spark an interesting debate about what really constitutes a person's true being. Is it the body? Or the soul in control of that body? When viewers call Castiel beautiful are they seeing more than just the body? Are the eyes beautiful because they are windows to the soul within (i.e. Castiel?)

Personally I love Castiel, find him beautiful and his eyes mesmerizing. I don't feel the same way about Jimmy (interesting, since it's the same actor.) IMO, personality does a lot for a person's beauty and there have been many people whom I didn't find attractive due to their personality who were conventionally considered beautiful.

This is exactly how I feel about it. I'm in the same boat- I find Cas striking in ways that aren't there when Misha's playing Jimmy. Mad props to Misha for that, I can see like... An eye or a cropped screenshot and know whether it's Cas or Jimmy without even having to think about it. It's Jimmy's body, but when Cas is in it it's just... Different. It's all about the personality imo.

I always figured that after he exploded (pick a time) Jimmy was gone and the new vessel just looked like him. Like Anna after she exploded. I like to think Jimmy is resting in Heaven and Cas just gets the smokin' exterior.

Dear God, Jimmy's life sucks. He went from being a devout man to possessed by a fairly unimportant angel who doesn't think FEEDING his host body is important to getting his body back to losing it again to save his daughter. I really hope Castiel blocks him from experiencing any sex scenes. Somehow, I don't see Jimmy enjoying them.

I agree with you, OP. I'm pretty sure Jimmy's still in there, and the thought of him constantly trapped behind his own eyes is sickening.

to anyone claiming that "the angels ask permission, so it's okay!" --um. did you SEE seasons four and five? Every single time a human consented to being a vessel, it's either because they didn't understand what it meant (Jimmy the first time, Claire, Adam, John) or they were threatened/coerced/blackmailed/strong-armed into it (Jimmy the second time, Sam and Dean.) Anna doesn't count because the body was (presumably) hers to begin with.

to anyone claiming that jimmy is probably in heaven by now--1. does that really make it better? It's still his body, and there's no way he would have sacrificed it to Cas if the other option hadn't been Cas possessing his daughter. (Jimmy Novak is braver than Winston Smith.)
2. I don't buy it, anyway. We know from the episode with Famine that Jimmy managed to survive getting blown up by raphael and put back together by (probably) God. Why wouldn't he survive the next time Cas gets blown up and put back together? He's totally in there.
3. WHICH MAKES THE FACT THAT CAS KEPT THE VESSEL AFTER THE APOCALYPSE--WHEN HE APPARENTLY SPENT ALL THE TIME HE DIDN'T SPEND STALKING DEAN IN HIS BACKYARD IN HEAVEN--TOTALLY PROBLEMATIC. Like, yeah, he blackmailed somebody into giving him their body by threatening their kid, but it was okay if he NEEDED it to save the world, right? After the averted apocalypse. Cas. did. not. need. a vessel. I get that in order for us to get Cas onscreen, we need Misha, but within the context of the show, there seriously aren't any excuses, imo.

I'm a Dean/Cas shipper. I don't even know what to do with how I feel about this.

I'd think 'those are misha's eyes' and I wonder about how the color of his eyes get described as being 'alien' or angelic when the people who were casting the role for Castiel probably never said 'to audition for a role of this supernatural creature you must have preternaturally beautiful blue eyes.'
