I have a friend (and have seen a few videos of women) who have cured themselves of PCOS through diet (raw vegan diet specifically). It can be done, just takes determination and discipline. Most people sadly, would rather shit on the idea than actually do research and go through with it. I don't know who on earth would rather suffer than cure it. :\

(Anonymous) 2011-11-11 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
maybe because they're actually fine with it and choose to live their life the way THEY want to because it makes them happy? Like how OP is now that their perspective has changed? Because everyone has a different idea of what they want in life and not all of them want to be "cured" of something? :/

(Anonymous) 2011-11-11 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, take your unscientific victim-blaming "sick people aren't really sick, they're just fat/lazy/eating the wrong foods/not meditating enough" bullshit and FUCK OFF.

wow, and they call me an asshole.

statistically, I bet there are a few cases of cancer that have been cured via prayer circle, but I'm not about to leave a Gideon's Bible in someone's infusion room, you know what I mean?

I don't really see how you're an asshole. F!S readers are just overly sensitive (I don't mean about SJ issues or anything like that either, I mean more about, the tone of your comments and so forth) and like to find fault with every single letter you post

(Anonymous) 2011-11-11 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
I think the "asshole" part was that someone felt the need to respond to the OP's post about their (unnamed) disorder with a random comment about how PCOS can totally be cured, and anyone who still suffers from it just wasn't willing to do the 'work' (defined as a raw vegan diet). As someone with PCOS, nothing burns my ass more than being told my disorder is just "an excuse for being fat" or "a lifestyle problem" -- that attitude can be actually damaging to your health.

And for the record, even if you're doing well with diet/exercise, you will always need to keep an eye on your hormones if you have PCOS. It's not like getting over a cold, that will always be with you.

Well, this particular comment you are replying to had nothing to do with this discussion, more the (recent?) negative perception of [livejournal.com profile] stella_down on F!S

For what it's worth, I agree with you. Hell, I get tired of people insisting that diet is a cure-all for everything. "Eat a better diet and start running and your bipolar disorder will go away!" NO IT FUCKING WON'T.

(Anonymous) 2011-11-11 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
heh, I have an aunt who believes that depression can be cured with "just a little bit of sunshine"

[identity profile] dragonladyk.livejournal.com 2011-11-11 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
Hell, I get tired of people insisting that diet is a cure-all for everything.

LOL. I had a doctor once who the best saying: "diet and exercise won't cure whatever ails you, but it'll help whatever cures you."

It didn't matter what drug or therapy he put you on, he was pretty much guaranteed to put you on a food/exercise program as well. ^^

I like posting here, but it's starting to get kind of embarrassing. I don't want to have a "negative perception" or whatever.

maybe I should just post anonymously like the raw vegan idiot upthread instead of trying to be accountable. idk.

(Anonymous) 2011-11-11 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
I've mostly given up on being accountable here.

For what it's worth, there are probably more people who like reading your comments or who are indifferent to them than people who hate reading them. So whatever.

I used to be the most hated poster on F!S and now look at m-- I don't have a life nevermind

(Anonymous) 2011-11-11 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I like your posts. People can't direct their rage at homette anymore and have shifted to the next available target - you.

I think you are very sensible, and though I may not agree with everything you say, you say it unobtrusively, and thoughtful, so I never feel offended or attacked. Plus, I love your icon! It really matches your replying-style.

Oh geez, it's been a long time so I can barely remember. I made it myself -- it was a from a French commercial, I know that. But I forget what the commercial was for. I found the commercial through the [livejournal.com profile] little_corporal community, you could try looking for it there

(Anonymous) 2011-11-11 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
Protip: diet and exercise helps PCOS, but it is not a magic bullet. What works for a few people does not work for everyone, else everyone would be doing this. Duh.

(Anonymous) 2011-11-11 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
Um as someone with PCOS, I will just tell you right now, no.

I have done the raw diet, the exercising, the medication, the everything. While many of these things have helped they have not even gotten close to CURING me. I am still fat, I am still hairy, and I still suffer from all the side effects of the disease.

Like with many things some people have more severe PCOS then others, I know some women with PCOS who are rather fit, while I have not been able to get past a certain weight no matter how hard I try.

There is no real cure at the moment, I will always have PCOS. I have done all the research, I know.

[identity profile] warmuse.livejournal.com 2011-11-11 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
jfc go away. victim-blaming patients for 'not trying enough to cure yourself by such-and-such magic wholesome natural method!' is the WORST. People like you do not help the sufferers' physical and mental health at all.

[identity profile] lilacsigil.livejournal.com 2011-11-11 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
OMG my one friend and some chicks on a video! Awesome! Tell medical science!

I tried it and ended up fatter with new bonus anemia! Yay!

(Anonymous) 2011-11-11 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
are you one of those people who go around telling mothers that their child's autism can be cured by a special diet?

[identity profile] amph87.livejournal.com 2011-11-11 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
Lol no, that's not how it goes dear anon. I'm normal weight and still have to deal with several annoyances that come with PCOS. There's no way for me to get rid of this shit.

[identity profile] billybobfred0.livejournal.com 2011-11-11 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
"Raw vegan diet" again? If you're the one I saw on ljsecret, you still owe me sources.
