Yeah, ok. Arashi may be more popular, but Shiina Ringo isn't some unknown. In fact, she is the second Japanese artist I ever heard of after Utada Hikaru. So just because some people don't like her, doesn't mean they only listen to Johnny's. In fact, I can't stand Johnny's, but there are MANY artists out there that are more creative, have a better voice, and more variety than Shiina Ringo.

'most talented' is subjective, and not just when it comes to Japanese music. You sound a bit butthurt that not everyone thinks this woman is the be all and end all of music. I'm not making a comment on whether she can sing or not, since I have no idea who she is, but you also have to remember that not everyone has the same taste.

Have you ever listened to Japanese pop music?

I'm not saying that Shiina is the absolute bestest (admittedly, I find her singing voice off-putting at times), but she is miles better than other female arists on the charts.

There are loads of great artists over there that deserve mainstream popularity. Unfortunately Japanese people have shitty taste when it comes to music.

I love me sum Shiina Ringo but it's not she's not underrated, especially with her band Tokyo Jihen. So all of this butthurt is pretty pointless.....

It's not like every country don't do the same shit. Although I kinda impressed that 2PM, a KPop band, is doing that well. I knew the Halleyu wave was strong in Japan, but that not strong.

Unfortunately Japanese people have shitty taste when it comes to music.

It's not just a Japanese thing, and there are a lot of talented acts out there that are mainstream, including Shiina Ringo. The balance of talent vs. bubblegum is not much different than in the West, it's just that Japanese trashy pop is in a different style than Western trashy pop.

I'm vaguely aware of the Shiina Ringo fandom, but I agree, I'd rather just talk about her with my friends than join it. I don't want anything to ruin my feelings towards her, since her and her music are so amazing.

Look, Shiina Ringo is my favorite Japanese artist, but calling her "the most talented musician in Japan" is insulting to other highly skilled Japanese musicians. Different artists have different strengths and focuses, and I'd never get into an argument about Shiina Ringo being "more talented" than, say, mudy on the 昨晩 or Miaou or Mouse on the Keys. I kind of dislike you because now people are playing down Shiina Ringo's skills simply to counteract your arrogance.

Also, there are always horrible parts of fandoms, but there are really great parts too. The trick is to ignore the shitty bits and find the drama-free people willing to have fun and discuss things. I mean, you don't have to be involved in fandom if you don't want to, but fandom isn't inherently bad.
