If you're saying what I think you're saying - which is that you constantly hear drumming in your head, the way the Master did and that you want it to stop - I think you should seek medical help. It sounds like that could easily be a symptom of some sort of mental illness e.g. schizophrenia or some other delusional disorder, and especially given that you say it bothers you, I'd maybe see a professional.

This is exactly why this is secret. There is mental illness in my biological family, I want no part of that. Since I know the difference between fantasy and reality, I mostly keep my mouth shut and deal.

I think if there is already a history there, it wouldn't be so bad to have yourself evaluated, OP. A lot of people associate mental illnesses with "OMG CRAAAAAAZY GARY OLDMAN" and being completely off your rocker, but there are a lot of types of illnesses and some peoples' chemicals are merely just slightly out of balance. You can have a mental illness and still know the difference between fantasy and reality.

I know you're probably worried about actually being diagnosed (if that's why you don't seek professional help) but getting help is a much better option than worrying about a stigma and slipping into something you can't get out of.

There's a bigger danger in just ignoring what could be serious warning signs.

well you...can't really choose whether you want to be mentally ill or not. Living in denial really isn't a great long term plan for things like this. Regardless, I hope things improve for you in the future

OP, please consider this: Your brain is pretty much the most important part of your body. Caring for your mental health is just as important as caring for your physical health. If any part of your body is too sick for you to function properly, you need to see the appropriate doctor. There's no shame in that.

"Since I know the difference between fantasy and reality,"

Ignore the Internet Differential Diagnoses you're getting, OP. As long as you know the difference, and the former isn't adversely affecting your life (to the point where you can't function in your daily life), eh. You're fine. If it is adversely affecting your life to the point where you can't function, then ignore this, and have a good long think about your options.

(Though I feel you on having that version of the Master in your head. I'd personally prefer the Master from "Deadly Assassin" over "Teh Sooound of TEH DRUMMMMMS," ha ha.)

TL;DR: Most people don't realize that everyone is a bit "strange" inside their own heads, when compared to societal "norms" enforced by TV/media/etc.
