I think what is even more bizarre to me is when they have full-on, coherent conversations with each other during sex. The sex really cannot be very exciting or great if that occurs IMO.

(Anonymous) 2011-11-24 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you frigid/a virgin? Just wondering, since this seems to be really important information based on how this thread is going so far.

(Anonymous) 2011-11-24 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Rude. Just because other people have chosen to start bringing RL experience into this doesn't mean that everyone who comments has to be interrogated on the contents of their little black book.

(Anonymous) 2011-11-24 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh no, just the ones who agree with the secret and don't like sex talk in their fanfiction.

Those who like it get a pass.

[identity profile] imascavenger.livejournal.com 2011-11-24 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm, I didn't know that just because I do not care for lots of talking during sex must mean I am suddenly Emma Pillsburry. A vigorous sex scene with a long conversation will never not be a bit odd to me. No need to personally insult me for stating my opinion.

(Anonymous) 2011-11-24 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, but it's not meant as an insult! Didn't you know? Look for choffman's comments above.

Just observations, it's all.

[identity profile] imascavenger.livejournal.com 2011-11-24 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
lol, I thought you trying to come at me for not preferring sex talk. I was like "HDU!"

[identity profile] choffman.livejournal.com 2011-11-24 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I like how you anons have resorted to taking the discussion out of thread to propagate that anonymous hate instead of coming up with a coherent reason as to why I'm actually wrong. Keep on keepin' on.

(Anonymous) 2011-11-24 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Laughing my fucking ass off. How on earth is anyone supposed to coherently "prove you're wrong" that someone who dislikes sex talk in fanfiction isn't necessarily a virgin or frigid - since that was pretty much your only real contribution to this thread?

Only way would be to one us anons to have actual sex with you, and based on your replies here, I assume there would be no takers.

[identity profile] choffman.livejournal.com 2011-11-25 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
No one is supposed to prove anything, but giving me a good reason as to why they'd think my interpretation was off instead of jumping into huge hissy fits because I used a term they don't like would be pretty cool.

As far as I can see, OP seems to have a real problem with dirty talk and thinks it's gross. That, to me, signifies that they've got a sexual problem they might need to think about.

[identity profile] oflittlebrain.livejournal.com 2011-11-25 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
why the fuck does disliking a certain kind of sex mean you have a "sexual problem"

jw

(Anonymous) 2011-11-26 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
As far as I can see, you seem to have a real problem with understanding how psychology terms wouldn't be understood by people uninvolved with psychology and why something that seems ok to you can be offensive to someone else. That, to me, signifies you have an antisocial personality problem you might need to think about.

not anon(s?) who was arguing with you

(Anonymous) 2011-11-25 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
You are studying or have studied Psychology but you don't realize how offensive you've been in this thread?

I don't even disagree with your point, but the way you bring it up is very rude and condescending.

Sex is a very sensitive topic in real life already - it stands to reason that if you want a coherent, polite conversation about it on the internet you ought to show more tact and respect, which, regardless of the anonymous commenter(s)' behavior, you ought to have shown if you wanted your arguments and yourself to be taken seriously instead of triggering defensive attitudes in everyone who didn't agree with you.

You are either not taking this seriously, in which case you are acting much too similarly to a troll, or you have to apply your studies to real life situations some more.

Re: not anon(s?) who was arguing with you

[identity profile] choffman.livejournal.com 2011-11-25 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
You're spot on, I vastly misjudged how offended lj anons can get over word use.

I've had plenty of discussions around here on far more offensive topics and never had the negative reaction I'm having here, and this was pretty much my bad. Definitely not intentionally trying to troll, if I was I would have just gone anon like everyone else. ;p

And you're right about the fact that I wasn't taking this particular conversation too seriously. If I'd been writing a paper or talking to somenone I wouldn't have thrown around that term.

Re: not anon(s?) who was arguing with you

(Anonymous) 2011-11-25 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
It wasn't even your discussion what offended, or that lj anons are too sensitive; what caused that reaction was your condescension and assumption that you automatically know about the op's and the anon's problems in their sex lives just because of their personal taste in sex, whether in real life or in fiction - which, by the way, are not necessarily connected despite the impression you seem to be under; some people's taste in fiction is reflected by their taste in real life, but that's not the case with everyone, and why are you so convinced that preferring to talk during sex is wrong, anyway?

The condescension was what caused everything here.

And you're right about the fact that I wasn't taking this particular conversation too seriously. If I'd been writing a paper or talking to somenone I wouldn't have thrown around that term.

But you were talking to someone. Perhaps not face to face, but the people here are not any less real than people you meet in person.

Re: not anon(s?) who was arguing with you

(Anonymous) 2011-11-25 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
*not preferring to talk, I meant

Also, what [livejournal.com profile] oflittlebrain said below me.

Re: not anon(s?) who was arguing with you

[identity profile] oflittlebrain.livejournal.com 2011-11-25 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
I vastly misjudged how offended lj anons can get over word use.

yes of course it's just that anons are easily offended and not that you were being a giant fuckass all over this thread

"frigid" is an offensive term for female sexual arousal disorder because it has been constantly thrown at women who are not sexually available all the time in the ways that men want them to be. for you to whip that term out for absolutely no reason was just out of control.

(Anonymous) 2011-11-24 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL I love it when people are into rape kink and that kind of shit and everyone is like "your kink is not my kink and that's okay, respect for everyone, blah" but as soon someone doesn't share a popular kink everyone is like "what's wrong with you?", "lol virgin", etc.

Pathetic.

[identity profile] sister-wife.livejournal.com 2011-11-25 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
this p. much

i agree with this secret and i'm pretty sure if i made a secret about how much i love incest fic there would be way less people going "so you want to fuck your brother, then?" than there are people screaming "frigid virgin!!!!" here

your experiences and preferences =/= everyone else's, and it doesn't even really matter if someone has sexual experience or not when all they're talking about is their preferences in porny fanfic. it's not realistic and it's fine to gravitate towards stuff that works for you.

(Anonymous) 2011-11-24 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Haven't really run into any "full-on, coherent conversations" during a fanfic sex scene, although if I did I wouldn't necessarily say that would indicate that the sex is less than great. It's not always wham, bam, thank you ma'am. Foreplay can last for hours, and talking to each other, getting each other more and more into the mood can be part of that. Sex scenes don't always have to be p goes in v and then everybody has incoherent, screaming orgasms. In fact, I kind of want to read something like that now, where two characters are in an established sexual relationship and like experimenting with dirty talk during their foreplay.

On the other hand, if you are looking for screaming, incoherent orgasms, then dirty talk can still be a really hot way of portraying just how swept up and turned on the characters are if you have them blurt out things they might not say under normal circumstances. Not necessarily porn cliches like "you're so big" or whatever, but a character who might be quite passive giving direction, moaning "there" or "don't stop". That sort of thing.

Honestly, it sounds like the OP may have been unlucky and only found dirty talk that reads like a bad porno script. Dirty talk can still be in character, it's only when it's OOC that it becomes eye-roll worthy, but that can be said of any aspect of fanfic.

[identity profile] imascavenger.livejournal.com 2011-11-24 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I understand what you mean, but I was talking about during the act, not foreplay, not just talk here and there, but a real, in-depth conversation. It was just odd to me.

(Anonymous) 2011-11-24 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
God, I used to do this in fic way too much. Not that there's anything wrong with talking during sex and hey, maybe some people are up to this, but talking whole eloquent paragraphs the moment before orgasm? You'd think they'd be a bit more distracted!
