aww, i know how you feel anon. i'm sorta like this too. i briefly considered sending my old friends a bunch of surprise xmas cards but i forgot their addresses and it would be too weird to ask them when we haven't spoken in nearly two years now. :(

(Anonymous) 2011-12-06 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
You can still call them to wish them a Merry Christmas, if you have their numbers, or, if you have their emails, draw them a cute postcard yourself, scan it, and send it.

[identity profile] ionizable.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
haha the email thing is actually a really good idea!

...

although i don't have their emails, since we never really ever emailed each other lol. facebook will do the trick, though, i think

[identity profile] inboots.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
i'm doing the sending x-mas cards to old-friends thing this year, too!!

luckily, i still have adresses. i'm too chicken shit for doing it via social networks, i worry about it seeming like they have an obligation to say something back, y'know. :/

[identity profile] santagrover.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
i have a friend like that.

[identity profile] rosehiptea.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
I'd love to hear from almost all of the people I knew in my old fandom days. I never have the nerve to contact them either, so I know how you feel.

(Those are Vash's glasses, aren't they? Nice.)

(Anonymous) 2011-12-06 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
They are, yes. ^^

[identity profile] asmaria.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
Aw, I think you should at least say hi. Some people find it touching juts to know that they're remembered. :)

[identity profile] castorochiaro.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
I would say to you, OP, and anyone responding to this thread who's gone through this, that you should definitely go for it. I've gotten back in contact with a few fandom friends I had from back in the day and almost every time, they were very happy to hear from me. People will surprise you, given the chance. Odds are they're probably feeling the same way about you, too.

[identity profile] reikah.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
adding to the chorus of 'go for it'. i recently got in contact with a few friends of mine from fma fandom too and though things aren't quite as they were they're still pretty good. i wish more of my friends from those days were still around.

♥ good luck, anon.

[identity profile] winter-ruins.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
I miss all my old fandom friends too. I'm not really in fandom anymore, and I'm sure they've all forgotten about me, but.... /sadface.

... **Uses an icon of a character they may associate with me since I'm pretty sure I've changed my LJ screen name. you know. Just in case.**

(Anonymous) 2011-12-06 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
I wonder, anon, did you draw that picture of Ed? Because that kind of looks like the style of fanart a friend used to draw.

[identity profile] sweetgreens.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
I feel the same way, anon. :( I don't have any of the same fandoms that my old friends and I shared... I sometimes wonder if they've moved on too, and what they're into now.

[identity profile] writerserenyty.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Know how you feel all too well :/

[identity profile] velvet-mace.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
I've lost track of a lot of friends from that fandom. Makes me sad to think about them. I need to reach out again... I've been such a hermit lately. :(

[identity profile] urplesquirrel.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, I'll start:

Hi, Vel. How are you doing? Thanks for never treating me like the obnoxious fifteen year old fangirl that I was when we were in the FMA fandom together.

[identity profile] velvet-mace.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude, you were never obnoxious. I worried a bit about the porn I wrote around you, but you seemed to respect that.

What fandom you hanging out in now? I see you here from time to time.

YES. YES YES YES.

It would be very much okay. Friends may meet due to a shared fandom, but friendships are made of stronger stuff than that. Otherwise, you would be BFF with anyone who's watched or read the same thing. And if there was anything to your friendship at all, your friends would be very glad to hear from you. I know I would, from some of my friends I've lost touch with.

[identity profile] urplesquirrel.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 06:04 am (UTC)(link)
I'd say go ahead and send your friend a "hey, what's up?" message. The worst that's going to happen is you won't get a reply (unless you parted on bad terms, which is different that drifting apart). Sometimes I still think about my old friends from my earlier fandoms and kind of miss them. I mean, you might not have anything in common now that you no longer share the same fandom... or you might discover new points of commonality. No way of knowing until you give it a shot.

[identity profile] dragonimp.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 06:34 am (UTC)(link)
There's people I'm sad to have lost touch with, too :(. But some it's because they've stopped using LJ and I don't know where they've gone, and I'd feel like a creepy stalker if I tried to track them down. I guess if they still wanted to talk to me, they know where I am.

[identity profile] cheeerie.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 08:01 am (UTC)(link)
I know the feeling, anon ♥ I had a fandom friend who was pretty much my one and only. We started in one fandom together, then she brought me into another, which actually turned out to be the love of my fandom life.

But then she graduated from Uni, and I entered my final/grad year, and we both started working so much and our fandom started to die. We have each other on Facebook/MSN/LJ but we're rarely on it at the same time D: We talk, but not as often as we used to. Growing up kinda sucked, I miss her so freaking much.

TALK TO HER, ANON. Don't be scared, because the longer you wait, the further apart you're going to become ♥

[identity profile] inugrlrayn.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I totally understand what you mean, anon. I, for one, am always pretty thrilled to hear from old fandom friends though. Even if we no longer share a fandom, we made friends for a reason, and I like to think we'd still hit it off, fandom or not. :)

(Anonymous) 2011-12-06 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
This prooooobably isn't me, but I shared both of these fandoms with someone I fell out with, years ago. Very tempted to start up a conversation, now.
Thanks, OP. :)

(Anonymous) 2011-12-07 12:19 pm (UTC)(link)
If it's you, don't be shy to.
