(Anonymous) 2011-12-20 01:58 am (UTC)(link)Anyways, I only got to watch a select few episodes, because it ran late (in my country) and my folks didn't want me to stay up late. It was only a few years later that I finally got to watch a full season of Buffy because one channel was having a Buffy marathon over the holidays. And you know what? I HATED it. I literally just sat there with my mouth hanging open and rolling my eyes every 5 minutes, then rolling my eyes some more when I learned how much praise the show had gotten.
Again, a few years passed by. The re-runs started, and I thought, why not. I might as well watch it for the lulz - only to find out I loved every moment of it.
I think I only learned to love it, because I didn't take it seriously anymore. I loved how cheesy and camp the whole thing was; and it was after that that I learned to appreciate the bits of originality that really made it different from other shows at the time.
So... I guess what I'm trying to say, is that the series isn't "superior" and "the best writing ever" when it comes to TV. But it's fun when you don't expect anything from it, and by not taking it for granted you can actually enjoy it. But it's totally cool if you don't see the appeal - I've been there, I know the feeling.
