I'm fascinated by the way they interact but don't really ship it. I can't see it happening unless it's non-con or Batman gives into some repressed urges and tries to deny anything happened. It could probably work from the POV that they are kinda obsessed with each other and need an outlet. I really can't get into romantic fics about this pairing though :\

I can't do the straight-up romance thing with it either, despite shipping it. They can never truly meet each other halfway. For their relationship to not be miserable and antagonistic would require the destruction of at least one of them as the person they currently are. And yet, in a bizarre kind of way they understand each other. I can't ever see them coming to terms, but there are these brief moments, in some interpretations, where they're on the same wavelength and it's like, holy shit, if things were just a little different. It feels like they're both aware of that somewhat and the fact that they can never change each other, but keep offering the hand across, is why I'm both fascinated by the idea of them wanting each other and unable to reconcile the thought of it ever actually happening (or at least, in a way that would make either of them happy).
