Heh, I get your meaning OP. You just have a very specific type, nothing wrong with that! And we all have certain stories which draw us in more and we prefer to watch, so it makes sense that you like a story with a romantic element that fits your favorite dynamic.

I can watch tv without a OTP, but I don't read any fanfiction except for romantic ones. To me the canon of a work is what I go to for a gen story, where I like to concentrate on romance (basically, what they rarely concentrate on in most the works I like) in the fanfic. And my type of OTP is one person who has a charismatic or fool-like persona with the other a very determined person who very strongly believes in what they think is right (whether or not it really is right doesn't usually matter to me), and who has a fairly steady personality. It's not too specific, but it is something I realized all my ships have. I guess I love that dynamic? *shrugs*

And sorry, I don't think I have any recs. Most of my female/male OTPs don't involve a blonde/light brunette, so far that I can remember... *thinks* Well, my OT3 has a blonde guy, but the girl is a redhead.

Edit
*one person who has a charismatic or fool-like persona with a inner life of a great deal of insecurity.

Oops, forgot the really important bit.

(Anonymous) 2011-12-25 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
OP.

I was just curious as to where this type/dynamic came from lol, I mean I'd imagine some shows or other I watched as a child contained it and it sort of got built up as my favorite kind of relationship as I've always been a shipper but I can't pinpoint what EXACTLY it was.

I can watch without shipping too, the show just won't be one of my FAVORITES ever and I probably won't ever care about getting the DVDs. Yeah fanfic is great for romance, I'm perfectly fine with the canon never bothering with set romantic relationships one way or another, since usually they just end up wrecking it with their CRAPPY WRITING oh hello ST: Enterprise finale I'M NOT STILL MAD :(

That sounds like a fun OTP type to have, the latter character definitely sounds like one I'd like so YAY COOL DYNAMICS!

I'm not so set in my shipping ways as that, but I do have this insistence that the characters have different hair colors, or at least different shades. Idk why, I just find it more appealing that way, even if they're book characters and I can't actually see them.

(Anonymous) 2011-12-25 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Barney/Robin in HIMYM?? Not really canon but it's blone/brunette, male/female and they both have daddy issues (and a boatload of other issues)!

That's the only pairing on my ship list that fits your type :P. I have no idea of all the people in your secret though (apart from the cartoon ones) so this may be a stupid recommendation.

Btw there is nothing wrong with a type. I always feel a bit weird that I don't seem to have one! None of my ships seem that similar and include m/f, m/m and f/f and all seem quite different but there probably is a type hidden in them somewhere.

(Anonymous) 2011-12-25 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
OP here.

Sounds appealing since I mostly just watch CBS but I hate comedies lmao, and HIMYM seems like one of the ones I would really just not be into at all.

For anyone unsure about the people in this secret, starting above Velma and Shaggy:
Tom/B'Elanna, ST: VOY
Peter/Olivia, Fringe
Trip/T'Pol, ST: ENT
Callen/Kensi, NCIS: LA
you know maybe I just like shows with :s in the name..
Reid/Prentiss, CM
Jane/Lisbon, The Mentalist
Mick/Gina, CM: SB

Honestly it took me quite a while to realize I did have a type, then I connected the dots they all have said attribute, and while I watch shows without this specific couple type, they're never on my favorites list. Dig around a bit, maybe you can pick out the common theme in your favorite pairings too!

OP.

Yay ship twins!! Which ones do you ship as well? They're all great couples.

Don't have much to add other than 1) I know how you feel, I definitely have a few "types" of pairings that I gravitate to as well, and 2) omg Trip/T'Pol and Tom/B'Elanna YOUR TASTE IN TREK PAIRINGS IS GREAT AND YOU SHOULD FEEL GREAT AND CAN WE BE BEST FRIENDS AND PRETEND THESE ARE THE VOYAGES NEVER HAPPENED TOGETHER

Sounds like you want some Castle/Beckett in here. It fits them pretty much to a tee.

(Anonymous) 2011-12-27 09:17 am (UTC)(link)
Stana Katic is the one actress I look at and think "omg how does anyone believe this woman is a cop lmao" so sadly :( Castle is not a show I can roll with.

I KNOW I KNOW I'm weird as but, of ALL the actresses, I just laugh at the idea of her in law enforcement. I'm sure she's a great actress and all I just can't handle how she looks while pretending she's fighting crime, no offense to her or Castle's fans it's just my own "wtf lmao" thought process I'm sure :C
meredith44: Can't talk, I'm reading (Haven Nathan Audrey Promo)

[personal profile] meredith44 2011-12-25 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I see you have a lot of sci-fi in there. I highly recommend Nathan/Audrey of Haven (in the icon). Nikita/Michael from the original La Femme Nikita (not the Nikita reboot) fit well too. As do Sawyer and Kate from Lost (although I prefer Sawyer/Juliet) and Lee/Kara from BSG.

Oh, and for a crime show, how about Mary/Marshall of In Plain Sight?
Edited 2011-12-25 23:48 (UTC)

(Anonymous) 2011-12-27 09:15 am (UTC)(link)
OP

My dad likes to give sci-fi a try so I've grown up watching a lot of it. I could see if he'd like to try Haven, pretty sure he hasn't, and that was recommended later also, so it could be a good fit shipwise for me! My mom watched the original Nikita but I barely remember it lmao.

I'm pretty sure my dad has checked out In Plain Sight too while I've been in the room.. I was either doing hw and intentionally not focusing or it didn't catch my eye; if he checks it out more I'll keep my eye out for Mary/Marshall and see what I think.

Thanks for the recs!

What about John Egbert and Rose Lalonde from Homestuck? :D John's status as a brunet might be debatable in the eyes of SOME, I suppose, since his hair is usually rendered as pitch black - but even some of the members of the MSPA art team draw him with brown hair, and in any case, I'm fairly sure 'brunet(te)s' are simply people with any sort of dark hair. - so that could work? O: Rose has been explicitly described as blonde, meanwhile. (:

As far as the daddy issues/mommy issues are concerned, well, it may not be quite what you have in mind, not least because they're only thirteen years old, but... John has a very loving, encouraging (if eccentric) father, and I have no doubt that John loves him back - but he spends a lot of time resenting Dad and being rather distant from him, describing him as weird and annoying, and generally being something of a spoiled brat with regard to him. Rose would be a MUCH better fit; she has a loving (if, again, rather odd... and, er, alcoholic...) mother that she respects and loves deep down, but she habitually (mis)interprets Mom's sincere displays of affection as passive-aggressive one-upmanship or as cruel attempts to mock Rose's interests. ...really, Rose just suffers ALL SORTS of tangled knots of suppressed emotions and grave misunderstandings of other people's intentions, for all her know-it-all-ness. ):

It's an amazingly cute pairing that's been strongly hinted at in-comic more than once, yet for some reason, not a lot of people ship it! so JOIN US

(Anonymous) 2011-12-27 09:12 am (UTC)(link)
OP

Comics, especially web-comics aren't overly my thing. Neither is people who are so young being in a serious relationship, idk that kinda creeps me out plus I think it's just ill-fated. And the issues aren't fully rooted yet w/ their parents. Keep on shipping the good ship though, it sounds like an interesting dynamic for sure!! Just not sure if a. I want to get into Homestuck it seems kinda really not what I like and b. it hits my type juuuust right; ty for the rec though!

[personal profile] automaticdoor 2011-12-26 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
Jeff/Britta, Community. Britta's very light blonde, Jeff's a brunet, Jeff has serious serious daddy issues and Britta has family issues in general, and they have this delightfully fucked up relationship with each other. They're both sarcastic and prickly as fuck to cover up how fucked up and vulnerable they are. They're "off" right now in canon, but who knows how long they can stay apart, really. I know you said you're not into comedies, per se, but I don't even think of Community as a comedy. I mean, it's hysterically funny, but it's really serious and deep at the same time IMO. It's not superficial.

(Anonymous) 2011-12-27 09:09 am (UTC)(link)
OP

Yea comedies aren't my thing, I kinda get turned off by just HOW sarcastic and prickly as you said characters are. They just never seem like they can be happy, nice people because it's all scripted for a laugh. I guess I don't get immersed in their world? Plus it airs on NBC and I hope NBC rots in a landfill lmao but when Community's run is done, whenever that may be no offense to your tentative situation w/ the ratings & renewal lol, if they wind up canon I could give it a shot! Ty for the suggestion.

NCIS: Tony (lt. brown)/Ziva (brunette) - daddy issues up the wazoo for both of them
How I Met Your Mother: Robin (brunette)/Barney (blond) – daddy issues for her, both parents for him
Haven: Audrey (blonde)/Duke (brunet) - she’s an orphan, daddy issues for him
Audrey (blonde)/Nathan (brunet) - again, she’s an orphan, daddy issues for him
Psych: Shawn (brunet)/Juliet (blonde) – both have daddy issues
The Big Bang Theory: Penny (blonde)/Dealer’s choice main guy(brunet) – daddy issues for her, mommy issues for Leonard, Howard, and Sheldon, both parents for Raj

West Wing: Mix ‘n Match – almost everyone on the show has daddy issues of some kind: Toby, CJ, Sam, Josh, Jed, Mallory

Harry Potter Harry (brunet)/ Luna (blonde) – both parents for him (like whoa), arguably both for her

If you like comics, I can suggest three ships that are... sometimes brown/blonde pairing ships?

Depending on the artist, Edward Nigma (the Riddler) has had brown hair, black hair, and red hair. Jonathan Crane (the Scarecrow) has had his variations, too -- usually brown or blond, sometimes reddish. Harley Quinn is always blonde, and Linda Friitawa (a character who appeared in the "As the Crow Flies" story arc) is an albino so has blonde hair too.

So... DC/Batman universe, I can suggest Edward/Harley, Jonathan/Harley, and Jonathan/Linda? Eddie has issues with both of his parents but mostly his father, and Jonathan has ENTIRE SUBSCRIPTIONS over his entire family but mostly his great-grandmother (who should still count as a parent, probably, because she's the one who raised him). And from a bit of her family you see in Gotham City Sirens Harley has a problem with her dad, so.
