(Anonymous) 2011-12-25 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)I can watch tv without a OTP, but I don't read any fanfiction except for romantic ones. To me the canon of a work is what I go to for a gen story, where I like to concentrate on romance (basically, what they rarely concentrate on in most the works I like) in the fanfic. And my type of OTP is one person who has a charismatic or fool-like persona with the other a very determined person who very strongly believes in what they think is right (whether or not it really is right doesn't usually matter to me), and who has a fairly steady personality. It's not too specific, but it is something I realized all my ships have. I guess I love that dynamic? *shrugs*
And sorry, I don't think I have any recs. Most of my female/male OTPs don't involve a blonde/light brunette, so far that I can remember... *thinks* Well, my OT3 has a blonde guy, but the girl is a redhead.

Oops, forgot the really important bit.

(Anonymous) 2011-12-25 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)I was just curious as to where this type/dynamic came from lol, I mean I'd imagine some shows or other I watched as a child contained it and it sort of got built up as my favorite kind of relationship as I've always been a shipper but I can't pinpoint what EXACTLY it was.
I can watch without shipping too, the show just won't be one of my FAVORITES ever and I probably won't ever care about getting the DVDs. Yeah fanfic is great for romance, I'm perfectly fine with the canon never bothering with set romantic relationships one way or another, since usually they just end up wrecking it with their CRAPPY WRITING oh hello ST: Enterprise finale I'M NOT STILL MAD :(
That sounds like a fun OTP type to have, the latter character definitely sounds like one I'd like so YAY COOL DYNAMICS!

(Anonymous) 2011-12-25 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)For me, I think this dynamic love comes from my own personality. I play the fool (though not a charismatic one...) and have loads of insecurity underneath (though everyone comments on how comfortable I am in my own skin. Lolwut?). So I identify with that half. I also have strong convictions and a strong sense of what is right... though sometimes I find out it isn't so right, so I then can relate to the other half. I can deeply relate to both characters though they go to extremes, and thus I am more compelled by their story.
Plus, when their issues are dealt with I get a cathartic kinda second-hand bonus in seeing how these issues can be overcome.
... I analyze myself too much, btw.
Yeah, I can see that. It's like how I can watch some shows, but I don't get obsessively OMG I LUV since they lack my hot buttons.
And it is! They always butt heads but really care for each other, and there is always a very nice emotional build-up and pay-off when done well. Psychological digging and development ftw. I must say, yours sounds pretty fun too. :D
