Oh yes I thought about it too! I'm a Sherlock/John shipper but I have nothing against Irene, haven't read the book (will do so, though) and disliked her a little in the movie(2009), but BBC version is totally different and I think so far she looks great.

I hope Irene will be an awesome character, though it might not matter to those who think she's going to ruin their John/Sherlock. I don't understand woman character hate at all, especially when they are in a (usually non-canon) slash/yaoi pairing's way.

Don't turn this into a slash/yaoi thing. I've seen plenty of hate for characters in a straight couple's way, too.

Yeah, I know. There's too much hate everywhere, but the sad thing is that usually female characters get the hate, were they involved in shipping wars or not. Getting in the way of slash/yaoi is just the most common reason for hate in fandoms I have been in. Alongside with not being a badass and cool.

In the movie the roll and the actress simply just did not work. (She just seemed so STIFF.) The fact that Watson and Holmes had more chemistry in the movie when Irene was supposed to be a love interest by the script made me facepalm so hard. (Of course, RDJ and Jude Law played the part like Sherlock was in love with Holmes by their own admission, so that might have had something to do with it.) Just wasn't believable to me.

Of course, this made me kinda relived that she died in the new movie. Especially since they made Mary even more of a BA, so I didn't feel a like of Women Kicking Ass. Hellooooo, my first OT3! Watson and Mary definitely have the chemistry and Sherlock and Irene lacked in the movie.

I hate it in general when the fandom bashes the lady for 'getting in the way of true loooooove!* I am just absurdly relieved that in my new tv fandom so far the girlfriend/maybe soon fiance hasn't been bashed to hook up the fan preferred couple. Thank you god. I just can't read a fic when they pull that shit.

oh well. This is what I get for living in new zealand where movies don't get released for ages and for going on spoiler-ridden websites all the time. And for reading. *facepalm*
