Although it gets kind of bittersweet, because I'd fall in love with an anime/manga (my icon, basically) and want more than what was given.

And yet somehow I sat down and watched through all of Dragonball/Z/GT.
I'm not sure I could do it again.

But to the topic, that's not such a bad thing. Some of these series can take so long and then the end turns out to be something very unsatisfying.

Oh Naruto I miss you, but you just wouldn't end.

I won't watch anything longer then three/four seasons.
Mostly because it encourages more interesting arc based progression and character development. You've got your story you want to tell and can properly plan it out. You don't really get that in a lot of American shows either which is a damn shame.
Hell just look at The Wire, easily the show I appreciate above all else from a craftsmanship perspective, and season five was a significant dip that started effecting my enjoyment of the rest - dumb I know, but damn it, recognise when to end your series jerks.

I really hate long series precisely because most of the time you know it's only for the money they keep doing more, and not because they have a story to tell. I think it would be best to end a series at its top quality than to let it drag on and ended being something mediocre.

(i would watch the fuck out of a billion seasons of kaichou wa maid sama or nichijou but it ain't gonna happen.)

(Not speaking of Naruto; I don't watch it.)

But I think it's entirely understandable why you don't want to commit to long series, particularly when the series are excruciatingly long shounen ones. I mean I loved the original YuGiOh! but part of that is because it didn't drag on forever.

I just like concise, put-together stories! I'm not interested in having my fave characters stick around forever, I just want a good story.

Long time fans were lured in by part one, which was fairly consistent and seemed like it was planned out. Now we have a tedious mess that is just being dragged out way longer than it should have been.
Sorry for going off on my own tangent but I use to be sooo into Naruto and now it just leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. I'm part of the camp that believes the whole 'saving Sasuke' thing should have been an arc or two at most... not the whole freaking story. Now Kishi has built-up so much anticipation he'll never live up to the hype. Not to mention I don't think there are many who can truly sympathize with Naruto's wish to save Sasuke as Sasuke has turned into one of the most detestable and one-dimensional characters I have ever seen, and the stories hero is a complete doormat for him.
TL;DR- Being a spurned Naruto fan I agree with you OP. I know I'm not alone when I say I just want it to end already.

What started as a likable character turned into the most can-I-stab-him-now-times-infinity character I have ever seen. And usually I'm never invested in hating characters, preferring to just fawn over my favorites...so this is saying a lot.
*pats back* Don't be sad anon. Just enjoy the insanity, the humor and the nonsense currently going on. Without strings or attachments.
there's always fanfiction to redeem what you hate in the show! <3^^;
