(Anonymous) 2011-12-27 01:01 am (UTC)(link)Anyway, basically I was saying that, yeah, there's a small, petty part of me that sneers when I see a fifteen year old wearing a She-Ra t-shirt, because all I can think is "you weren't even alive when that was on tv!" But the fact is that the current generation of teenagers has grown up with DVDs and the Internet always being there. Meaning they've had access to all sorts of things, and that includes tv shows no longer showing on television.
When I was born, VHS was still relatively new, but becoming more popular. Which meant I had access to a wide variety of Disney movies I could watch whenever I wanted when I was growing up. But for the generation before me, they didn't have that, they had to wait until the films were rereleased at the cinema. As technology evolves, it gives us wider access to more entertainment.
Then again, I wear my various cartoon graphic t-shirts with pride, and I've never really understood the point of wearing them 'ironically' or wearing something based on a show I've never seen, so what do I know?

I DID watch 90s cartoons, I was in my elementary school years then, but I wear shirts that are more the pop culture of the 80s, before I was born, but I am a legitimate fan. I never wear shirts of shows/anything that I don't know what it is; I think I would feel uncomfortable if I did.
