I don't know, I always thought Harley was relatively feminist-friendly because okay, she's obsessed with a murderous patient, but she can still hold her own, her relationship with Ivy is one of the most fantastic things in recent comics, and is a really fun character overall. Besides, that original costume is great! It's functional while still being cute, iconic, AND pretty fun, which speaks to her personality. It's only recently that I've seen her turned into some sexpot piece of eye candy (Arkham Asylum/City, New 52, etc.) and an overall much less ladyreader-friendly character. If that makes any sense.

teal deer- I think Harley's a fantastic lady in comics but her most recent incarnations have been embodiments of obviously male-oriented hypersexual fantasies.

Ivy and Harley have always had a relationship...

Her original costume may be functional and cute but "sexing up" Harley isn't a recent thing. Not at all. Depending on the artist, she's been sexualized and drawn as eye-candy plenty of times before in comics. In her own comicbook run, she had an artist that drew her with the male gaze in mind (crotch, ass and boob shots, legs as wide open as possible as she's jumping toward the reader, various porn star poses, you name it). She may be a sweet thing to some female fans but she's pretty much a sex object to a LOT of fanboys. Just like Ivy. When it comes to the male readership, her acting like a "bimbo" is pretty much a plus, you know what I mean?
