Genuine question: how terrible is it if you don't know the names of anyone from your favorite band and have no interest in finding out?

As for the the secret, I don't see a problem with it as long as they're not acting like smug little twits who are huge fans despite not knowing anything about it. Maybe they just thought the shirt looked cool? Or maybe they're just starting to get into the show/band and don't know too much deets about it yet.

I don't see the problem. You enjoy the music but you're not in a fandom for that music? Totally cool.

I'm a devout fan of many, many musicians - for their music. I don't care to know too much about them unless I find them intensely interesting (in the case of Ozzy), because otherwise you tend to discover awful things (like in the case of Eric Clapton)

So I don't think it's awful in the slightest.

Nah, I'm the same way. Unless I'm REALLLLLY into the band, most of the time I don't have the time or attention span to try to research every goddamn member of the bands I like (and considering how many I love, it could take a while).

Nah, it's not too bad! I usually only tend to get around to it if I really, REALLY like the band and want to find out if the frontman did anything else. (This may or may not have a lot to do with the fact that most of my favorite bands aren't around anymore. XD)

And yeah, they could have just gotten in to it! I think it's fine to buy a shirt as soon as you're sure you like something enough to buy swag for it, even if you haven't had time to learn anything yet.

A band you just really like their music, I don't see a problem. If you proclaim they're your favorite band, then I would think knowing the names of the members (even just their first names) and having some knowledge about their music, such as album names and possibly the release years would make sense. You don't need to know intimate details, but general knowledge of the band. Basically things you'd find on a bio page. I find it strange for someone to proclaim that anything is their favorite without knowing basic things about it. That's like saying you have a favorite book, but you couldn't quote anything from it. You don't need to be able to recite the entire thing backwards and forwards, but if it's such a favorite you'd know certain things than if you just generally liked it, y'know? It's just what naturally happens when you have that much of an interest in something.
