Honestly I side-eye anyone who says Gaston 'wasn't so bad'. I've seen people defend his plan of putting Belle's father in an asylum just to get her to marry him.

Gaston's pretty wicked. He tried to get someone locked in an insane asylum and he tried to kill Beast after he'd learned that he was a sentient creature with whom Belle had a romantic relationship. The person above isn't saying Gaston's a baddie for wanting in Belle's pants.

No, no; I agree entirely that Gaston's a bad piece of work. I'm side-eyeing the people originally mentioned who thought that somehow him trying to get her father committed in order to blackmail her into marrying him was okay.

But why the hell is that okay?! He isn't trying to manipulate her to save her from being carried off by some evil monster that she is blindly and erroneously assuming is her "friend"; so far as I can tell his only motivation is that he wants into her pants. Which does not (IMO) justify blackmail etc! O_o

I probably wasn't clear enough about that. I was sort of afraid of that, lol.

Honestly I side eye anyone who says they like Gaston. As in...at all.

Even when I was little I got the 'get away from me you creepy stalker because my skin is crawling' vibes from him.
He was a brutish, uneducated, forceful, imbecilic character who thought with his crotch and whose best friend was a mirror.

Frankly I was happy when he was gone. It's one thing to have foe yay with a character whose brain is actually functional and one thing to have foe yay with a man like Gaston.

And before anyone gets on my case for mixing thinking with sexual tension let me just say that I can't be stimulated in any way by a man who has the depth of a teaspoon. For me FOE YAY = SEX APPEAL + BRAIN + SIMILAR VIEWS ON SOME THINGS (and I'm leaving a few things out here for the sake of comment length). Otherwise there'd be no yay and the guy would only be an enemy.
