Personally, ITA that his plots are pretty suspect. Moffat tends to go for ~flashy~ plot twists over actually having his plots make any sense. I mean, even in series 5, that crack made no sense. Over and over again the plot tells us that falling into the crack means that a person is erased from time and history. But then the Doctor goes into the crack (which as we saw in "Turn Left") should have had a HUGE impact on the history of Earth, but... apparently not. And of course, series 6 was a huge mess of non-sense making complicated plots. A lot of times it feels like Moffat just makes his plots super complicated in hopes that no one will be able to figure out what is actually happening and thus they won't notice that none of it makes any sense.
I've posted this here before but I think it's worth posting again.
And yes, his character writing is pretty awful. Neither Amy nor Rory reacted in a believable way to losing their baby. He basically writes his characters to fit the plot. Like at the end of "Day of the Moon" where the Doctor actually says, "So, this little girl, it's all about her. Who was she? Or we could just go off and have some adventures. Anyone in the mood for adventures? I am. You only live once." So the Doctor, who in 5x02 a huge deal was made out of how he can't bear to see children cry, is just going to abandon that lost little girl so he can go have adventures. LOL OK. NICE CONSISTENT CHARACTERIZATION THERE. But see, Moffat HAD to write the Doctor OOC because if the Doctor found the little girl then we couldn't have had the hot mess that was "Let's Kill Hitler". And then Moffat has to have River be like "oh yes! I lie all the time!" in order to retcon past episodes to have them make any sort of sense. Well... ok then. It's just shoddy writing all around.

Moffat is REALLY hit or miss. Sometimes everything is great, but he gets really repetitive. Time loops being the worst offender (The Big Bang II makes less sense each time I watch it) but I was also sick of cracks in nearly every episode in series 5.
Also the big reveals sometimes come off as really ridiculous. The question being "Doctor Who?" The password being "SHER"? I just rolled my eyes.
