It explains some, but she had six sisters who presumably loved her too, and she was still willing to toss them aside to go chase after Eric, who she knew literally nothing about, except that he loved sailing. I mean, I can understand wanting to get away from a father who trashes all your shit (believe me, can I), but not so much the "running off with a total stranger" part.
