It's called "money." Simply importing and subtitling a foreign film doesn't net the American film industry nearly as much cash as producing and marketing their own remake.

The U.S. isn't the only one that does that, either. Bollywood (Hindi cinema) is just as shameless about it.

The American film industry has completely swamped almost every foreign market in the world with Adam Sandler being purposefully dense and Jim Carrey pulling faces. You kinda start to notice that this shit is completely unfair when perfectly good movies are being remade for the American market. Yeah, money drives the force behind remakes. That doesn't make it any less of a dick move.

You're the one that put that comment out there and they responded. No need to get so touchy.

But to be more on-topic, this American wishes Hollywood would back away from perfectly fine foreign films. I'm sick of finding out that a new movie coming out is actually a redo of a movie that's already been made, especially if it was originally done in English, so they can't hide behind the 'Americans won't watch movies with subtitles' bullshit. I like foreign movies. Some of my favorite films from the past couple of years were not made in the fucking USA, and I don't understand why Hollywood seems to feel so threatened by movies being made in other places.
