Is this your first time in fandom? Because in basically every fandom of decent size there are the really crazy people, the obsessed people, etc, and it's really not as hard to avoid them as you seem to think.

Seriously, WTF. I've been in fandom since I was 13. I'm 27 now. The Sherlock fans are right up there in EUGH with the Supernatural fen and the McFassy fen.

IT IS SO HARD TO AVOID. Seriously.

oddly, I've also been in fandom since I was 13 and am now 27, but have no problems ignoring the crazies in any of my fandoms and haven't let them get my knickers in a twist since I was about 16 or 17. Especially when they're crazy in a fun way.

Yeah, I have to agree with you, I've always found it easy to tune out the crazies and ignore the flood posts on LJ/Tumblr/etc if I'm getting a little tired of something. Avoiding a fandom CAN BE DONE.
