Fandom can be a pain in the ass, and I don't think it's as easy to avoid as most people say - at least, not if you still want to actually *partipate* in fandom. Sometimes it feels like you either have to put up with the crap, or cut yourself off completely.

My fandom was pretty shit this year - rampant misogyny toward the girls and endless hysterics over a run-of-the-mill bromance that I find utterly tedious; but the only thing you can really do is remove yourself from the worst places, find LJ friends that like the same things you do, and concentrate on the fics that deal with the subjects that you're interested in.

Of course, I'm not on Tumblr, and I've heard that's where most of the wank takes place.
