Maybe many years ago when I was naive and before they ruined Ella Enchanted still trusted movies makers with my favorite books I could've agreed with you, but a SotL movie would probably be terrible.

I liked the movie Ella Enchanted, but in my head the book and the movie are completely different. Like... not even worthy of comparison, because aside from names and one trait in the female lead, they're nothing alike. Same goes for the Howl's Moving Castle anime. Both times after I watched the movies with my mother I told her, "You know, you could read the books after watching the movie and not even be spoiled for the ending."

Usually I can tolerate changes in book to movies translations... but not Ella Enchanted. They pretty much changed the entire point of what was going on. I was so angry when she breaks her spell halfway through the movie because of the power of ~love~. In the book she broke the spell while trying to sacrifice what she wanted for the greater good, but they had to go with the cheesy, overused one instead.
Just... ugh. I should stop ranting. I think I'm gonna be bitter about that movie until the day I die. D:>

I like that quality. Like, sometimes it's okay if the adaptation pays respect to the original while being entirely its own creature, which I felt was done very well with Howl's Moving Castle.

Yes, this. Ella Enchanted us pretty much the reason I don't want Tamora Pierce movie adaptations. I mean, it was like they took all the character's names and just made a completely new story!

Yeah, that was the first time I'd ever felt betrayed by a movie. That Ella was one of the first book characters I really related to and fell in love with and they murdered her character. Alanna was my second book character like that and I can't even imagine the horror they would inflict on her...

Ella Enchanted and The Dark Is Rising -- oh, wait, sorry, I mean The Seeker /HEAVY SARCASM -- were the ones that made me bitter and disenchanted re: book-to-movie adaptations.

coming here just to say this. I will NEVER BE OKAY
