I am not touching twilight with a ten-foot pole, but OP did acknowledge the creepy parts of it and that it's an escapist fantasy.
I'm also kind of surprised that the hatred is as rabid as the fangirling. Most people I know IRL either find the series mediocre and not worth their time or they like it, watch the movies but don't think much more of it. I'm just..baffled that Twilight gets reactions that extreme from both sides, haha

See, that's the thing, she really didn't. She said "I know that other people think there are issues with the books, and I totally think that abusive relationships are bad, teehee, but I don't see anything in these books that promotes abusive relationships." That's different.
