Please speak for yourself - personally I've had a guy who wrote me poetry, and did all those 'romantic', while he wasn't abusive, exactly, he came close enough to it because of his actions that it drove me to running for the hills.

Seriously OP, what most 'romance/romantic' books/movies try sell as being...well. Romantic? A lot of those, if you actually sit down and think them through, end up being mildly creepy at best.
