I don't watch the show. I don't mind the minor spam that pops up on my dash. I am following maybe two people who are Sherlock fans, and could easily either unfollow them or Tumblr savior their stuff and never have to see any mention of Sherlock again outside of this community. So, no, it's not at all impossible to ignore the fans, or avoid them completely if you so desired.
If you're following people who post Sherlock shit and don't want to unfollow them? Get Tumblr savior. If they don't tag their shit? Ask them to. Tumblr people I follow have actually been really good about tagging shit if people let them know they'd like to blacklist something because it doesn't interest them/squicks them out/triggers them, so actually opening your mouth and being proactive will probably help.
Or stop whining about how you want to follow them but you don't want them to post what they like and you don't want to ask them to tag, and just unfollow them. Maybe you'll miss their other stuff, but it's hardly "falling off the face of the earth," so you'll just have to deal with the minor inconvenience of having to either a)not follow some people on Tumblr or b)talk to people on the Internet.
