I can't stop laughing at the term "hetfags" my god.

Also uh. Same-sex subtext isn't...really brushed off usually? Unless you mean by a mainstream audience for more mainstream properties. For the most part, if there's same-sex subtext, at least if it's m/m (and fairly often if it's f/f, too), the fandom is all over it.

I hope you're a troll, but it wouldn't surprise me if you aren't, sadly.

I've met too many people who really think like this -- mostly squealing women and girls at anime cons who assault random boys with yaoi paddles and smell like a pair of used gym socks -- to call troll with absolute certainty.

Ayup, my thoughts exactly.

It's kind of sad how it's getting more and more difficult to tell the comedic hyperbole from the bona fide batshit.

Eh, where same-sex subtext is concerned in Transformers fandom? The predominantly male side of the fandom (ie. message boards) has gone so far in denying a character's potential homosexuality that they'd rather say he has a fetish for inanimate objects than admit that wolf-whistling at another dude and telling him that he has 'sweet [bodyparts]' is kinda gay.

It does happen, but it can happen with het ships that people don't like, too. And Transformers fandom definitely has slash fans who eat that sort of thing up, I'm sure.

I do agree it's pretty gross when people do that for homophobic reasons, though, or when the media or critics, etc ignore it when they'd be all over it for het. Just. OP here makes it sound like same sex subtext is commonly ignored, and it...really isn't. Not to the extent they seem to be claiming.
