I would love to learn ASL! I can finger spell, and if we ever have a deaf girl come to the camp I work at, I would be moderately helpful, but if I could actually sign...

So, yeah, I'm going to learn ASL as soon as I can, but I didn't realize that was "fetishizing" it, and I think if anyone is actually saying that, they need to learn what fetishizing actually means. :|

I also want to learn German and Swahili- German we have at school, Swahili... I'm not sure. But isn't learning new languages so much fun?

Not weird, it is fun. I just started learning German myself and I'm still at the point where I get super excited every time I recognise a word or remember a phrase.

Yay! ♥ I want to learn German so I can freak out my Da (who is German and speaks it) (he doesn't know), but I haven't been able to get into any classes yet...

Plus the one time I actually did try and pronounce German words, I screwed up, and he teases me to this day about it. Maybe if he had actually told me how to pronounce it instead of making me guess based on reading the bloody things, but noooo. |D

Getting into language classes is such a pain! All the ones you want get filled up so quick, and the ones left over don't fit your schedule. Best of luck next session OP, in getting into the class you want! (And if all else fails, you can either get overrides or badger people in the office. :D )

He was definitely one of my favorites- though I will admit, he annoyed me with his giant manifestation of hearts that he would kiss at you, and the idea that he would get to go on a date with a girl, even if she didn't want him to... Though, he was a kid they all were poor bbs so it doesn't bug me as much as if, say, an adult was doing it, if that makes sense.

I think Sakura should have been willing to give him a chance, but she was just a kid too...

I really like Rock Lee a lot more now, though. Like, a lot more. He's kind, and DETERMINED.

I agree, on both counts! Man, on my old FF.net count I wrote so many fanfics about them... many horribly written ones, but nonetheless.

And exactly! And I can so identify with the 'not good at something, but gosh darnit I'M GOING TO TRY.' I think most of us feel like that even when we are actually good at something, which just don't believe it. (But seriously, him and characters like him help inspire me when learning languages as I suck at it. I have actually done a punching-the-air pose, or thumbs up, to encourage myself at times. XD)

101 is the hardest because SO many people want to give it a try, but not many stick around and seriously get into the language. By class number two you should have a much easier time. (This is my experience with Japanese and it seems to apply to other languages)

/chiming in on the awesomeness that is German

I'm currently taking German, and it's great. If you have a good grasp of English, the transition is easy, because the sentence structure stays the same. After Spanish and their "noun then adjective" structure, it just makes me so happy. Also, so many German words are nearly the English equivalent; it's the accent that's key. :)

That's lovely, and it sounds easier after taking Japanese for a while... I mean, there are special letters, but it's mostly the same alphabet, yes? Instead of having to learn a whole new 46 letter hiragana alphabet+46 letters of katakana+kanji... |D

Not that I didn't like learning Japanese! I did! But... Kanji and I have a love/hate relationship. |D

There's one special letter that is becoming more and more obsolete anyway, and a couple of umlauts. It'll be a vacation after Japanese.
