I don't really miss the days of the Pokemon fandom, where you had to think of a catchy, creative name for your ship, not just smush two names together. Of course then nobody knew what the hell you were talking about, but it took effort!

I always liked Venoshipping, but that's partly because I helped invent it.

Some of the other bigger shounen fandoms are like that too - Yu-Gi-Oh, anyone? Or Prince of Tennis, but there it at least started from something canon (Golden Pair).

LOL I was about to bring this up. And the funny thing is that it wasn't that long ago. It was just in 2007-ish when suddenly people got nostalgic and flocked in mass numbers from other fandoms and brought in the name-mushing.

Maybe part of it is that it's nearly impossible to think of names that are at all relevant anymore that aren't already being used. I mean, seriously, this list. http://shipping.bulbagarden.net/ People were whining about "Ferriswheelshipping" because it's not relevant enough to the characters or whatever, but a lot of these names seem to have derived from inside jokes by people who hadn't played the games yet, or something. XD

I think Ferriswheelshipping makes perfect sense as far as relevance. It's awkward and silly, but so are most of them.

I've never been a part of Pokemon fandom, but I do believe I've seen those ship names around. YuGiOh is like this too if I'm not mistaken.
