Honestly, I think that that was really well played in the show. Think, he's supposed to be a genius, yes? And a genius wouldn't be stupid enough to walk into the room with the kids if he was to be recognized.

However, there's the chance that he's not a genius- not the way people think. There's the chance that he had been manipulating evidence and committing the crimes himself. This would lead to him being a genius, but perhaps not as much of a genius that other people think he is. Maybe, when it's not about committing a crime, he's really not that smart. Of course, he can still solve crimes, as he has the criminal's mentality, and he can't have done everything.

So, you have this man who potentially gets 'off' on crime, metaphorically or literally. Who's smart enough to blame other people for his crimes, but maybe not as smart as everyone thinks. Or, at least, a different kind of smart. The difference between smart-as-a-detective and smart-as-a-storyteller. It's possible, if he's not actually as smart as everyone thinks, that he just slipped up, and didn't realize, and that's why the girl screamed.

At least, that's what I would be thinking.

Yeah that's a good way of looking at it, I guess. Another possibility I was thinking was that they think Sherlock is so far down the psychopath route that he believes in his own lie too much. Like he sets all these things up to play out his own story where he is this brilliant genius that he does forget for a second that he was the kidnapper and the girl would remember him because, in that moment, he's pretending to be the hero.

Basically, Shutter Island. :P

Though I still wish Lestrade or someone had said; "Why would he go in there if the girl was going to freak out?"

I haven't seen that movie, but that sounds like a completely valid possibility too. :)

True, though maybe they were going to bring it up after questioning?

I mean, I thought that's why they were trying to bring him in in the first place, just for questioning.

It's a valid point, of course. :)

I just don't think Sally not thinking of it right away is indicative of her being a bad cop.
