Cool art, but Slytherin? Wouldn't he be Ravenclaw?

[identity profile] deadtree.livejournal.com 2012-02-16 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't read this, but I hope there's a good reason why Sherlock is Slytherin and not Ravenclaw...

[identity profile] nochi_san.livejournal.com 2012-02-16 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
Probably the non-evil interpretation of Slytherin, where they're not so much Muggle-hating baby-eaters as they are incredibly ruthless and ambitious. Which I can see in Sherlock, especially if you recall that whole "side of the angels" conversation.

I came here to moan that Sherlock is clearly a Ravenclaw only to find that two other people beat me to it. This is why the Internet is a fabulous and amazing thing.

I guess Sherlock is kinda cunning – he's disguised himself a few times now, and he's tricked people into revealing information, which is a Slytherin trait to me – but I don't see him as having the sort of ambition that a Slytherin would have. Sherlock's raison d'être is "I'm smarter than you, don't forget it": that's far more Ravenclaw. He's driven by using his mind and intelligence rather than ambition. Nah, it's Mycroft who's a Slytherin, guys. Just look at that amazing bastard and tell me he's not a Slytherin. Look at his network of cameras and spies collecting information and tell me he isn't crazy prepared. Look at the power he has amassed and tell me he isn't ambitious. Look at some of the things he's done in his role and tell me he won't do anything to achieve his ends. Tell me that and I will laugh.

In conclusion, John is defs a Hufflepuff, Sherlock is a Ravenclaw, and Mycroft is a Slytherin.

[identity profile] neko-9786.livejournal.com 2012-02-16 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
Which leaves Lestrade as a Gryffindor I suppose.

OH, yes, Mycroft is 100% Slytherin. Hot damn.

And agreeing that John is the epitome of Hufflepuff.

[identity profile] dreamingrain.livejournal.com 2012-02-16 01:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know guys - the fic is actually pretty good at giving him a reason for his Slytherin ways. (I was so confused just now that the computer thought I spelled slytherin wrong...before I realised it's not actually a word. Uh.)
Anyways - If you look at the ways that Sherlock uses people, as well as his upbringing, it's quite feasible. It's somewhat canon that Sherlock is a bit posh. I mean, Mycroft has connections, most actors who play him have a bit of an upperclass accent ect. Old family = old money. Which sounds like Purebloods.
Granted, his intellect should award him entrance to Ravenclaw - but his intellect is in curious and obscure things. If he were to be solving mysteries he'd need to have intimate knowledge of the dark arts. Common sense things might just pass him by.

I liked John as a Hufflepuff for a while, then I remembered Gryffindor exists. I also agree with the posters who prefer Sherlock as a Ravenclaw.

It's interesting that between the two of them, they basically have the four houses neatly subdivided into their personalities (if you read John as a Gryffinpuff and Sherlock as a Raverin), and yet they get along so fabulously. That's a touching case for the possibility of inter-House unity if I ever saw one.

(Anonymous) 2012-02-16 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
You do not have a house. You do not go to Hogwarts. JKR's bullshit divisions of humanity have zero right to make you less than proud of your character in the first place.

(Anonymous) 2012-02-16 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't want to say it, but... yeah. If it bothers you to be a Hufflepuff, go decide you aren't.

(Anonymous) 2012-02-16 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
JKR's bullshit divisions of humanity

THIS TIMES A HUNDRED THOUSAND MILLION

OH GOD WHEN WILL IT END

(Anonymous) 2012-02-16 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
I think Hogwarts houses can be fun for sorting fictional characters, but they're so completely appalling from a pedagogical point of view it seriously hurts me to think about it.

(Anonymous) 2012-02-16 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
you're not a fucking hufflepuff so there's no goddamn reason to be proud or ashamed of it

Pottermore made me totally see & embrace my Slytherin-yness, so rock on!

Someone wrote a Hufflepuff!John fic? This could be relevant to my interests.

[identity profile] making-excuses.livejournal.com 2012-02-16 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
Mine too... Now I either have to google it or hope someone will post a link...

No way, Sherlock's a Ravencl-- oh wait, we already covered that? Okay. John's a Gryffindor. Hello courage and loyalty and a slightly unhealthy love of dangerous situations.

LOL I can't with people who think John is a Hufflepuff. Sherlock is a Ravenclaw and John is a Gryffindor. Molly and (possibly) Lestrade I would consider Hufflepuffs. Clearly Mycroft is a Slytherin.

Well this entire thread was entertaining and decidedly OT. But I'm pretty the House system is more about who you end up with than who you actually are, frankly.

[identity profile] nomorenoodles.livejournal.com 2012-02-16 09:41 am (UTC)(link)
Fan of the Sherlock-is-a-Ravenclaw (though he has aspects of Slytherin I agree, but the house system is too simple to work for any developed character really)-and-John-is-a-Gryffindor persuasion. I honestly could never see him being a Hufflepuff. Not ever.

But it doesn't matter anyway, because neither of them are real.

aw, I am so firmly convinced that John is a Gryffindor (and Sherlock a Ravenclaw) - especially in this version, he's ADDICTED TO DANGER

but Hufflepuff is a fucking great house! Britta Perry is one. So is Dr. McCoy. Mal fucking Reynolds. Dick Grayson. Katara! (yes, I tend to sort all kinds of characters into Hogwarts houses when I'm bored YOU DON'T KNOW MY LIFE BALLIN' IS MY HOBBY) What I'm saying is, you should be proud of who you are. Captain America's a Hufflepuff. And so is Jesus. BLACK AND YELLOW BLACK AND YELLOW BLACK AND YELLOW BLACK AND YELLOW
