LINKS FOR EVERYONE ASKING

because this is a real thing that happens, even if this is probably a troll secret

http://missvoltairine.tumblr.com/post/11863080900/tw-rape-ableism

this prompt under "Any fandom" (http://queer-fest.livejournal.com/1058.html#cutid1): Any Fandom : Any character, Sex pollen isn't a particularly pleasant experience for anyone, but for asexual characters, it's especially unpleasant.

not really "rape is worse for asexuals," but it's more like "rape is sexual privilege" and general gross misunderstanding of rape/"sexual" people: http://strugglingtobeheard.tumblr.com/post/10345648542/tw-rape

I also DO remember a comment along the lines of "rape is worse for asexuals because we don't ever enjoy sex" but I am failing at finding the link. I want to say it happened on tumblr some place like aceproblems and was maybe covered on sf-drama. I'm still trying to dig up a link.

(Anonymous) 2012-02-18 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Wow... looking at the first and third links, I'm starting to think there's a chance the OP isn't trolling D:

[identity profile] kindlycoyote.livejournal.com 2012-02-18 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
D:

...Oh god, excuse me. My faith for humanity has plunged a bit. And what is with that logic, sexual people enjoy sex so rape is fun? WTF IS THIS FUCKERY.

I... I just... I'm going to go back to kick boxing to punch some of this away.

MORE LINKS

http://pussytooth.tumblr.com/post/17434454205/tw-sexual-abuse-victim-blaming

and I finally found this which is a more specific quote, but still not a direct link http://privilegedenyingasexuals.tumblr.com/post/10689765027/trigger-warning-for-rape

(that tumblr and http://aceslutshamers.tumblr.com/ are good for all the problems that pop up)

(Anonymous) 2012-02-18 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
the privilegedenyingasexuals blog pisses me off. the person running it is basically asexualphobic.

(Anonymous) 2012-02-18 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
asexualphobic

LMFAO best joke I've heard all day.

(Anonymous) 2012-02-18 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
Sadly not. There *are* people out there who tell asexuals that 'It's just a phase', 'you just need to find someone whose man/woman enough!' ect. And, yes, there have been accounts of rape happening because of it.

So it is a real thing. [NOTE: Not saying it's worse than what lesbians/gays go through - it's not. But it does happen.]

(Anonymous) 2012-02-18 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
And that can all be attributed to gender and gender role rather than asexuality. So no, it's not asexualphobia. It's flat-out misogyny.

(Anonymous) 2012-02-18 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
You'll find that gender and sexuality oppression are really closely linked. A lot of homophobia is rooted in misogyny and gender roles, but it's experienced as homophobia by gay people. It's the same sort of thing with anti-asexual sentiment. So yes, it is misogyny, but it is also "asexualphobia".

(Anonymous) 2012-02-18 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
It's the same sort of thing with anti-asexual sentiment. So yes, it is misogyny, but it is also "asexualphobia".

Not when the exact same prejudice can be and is leveled at celibate non-asexual women, and produces the same experiences for them. It's misogyny, and nothing else.

[identity profile] megalomaniageek.livejournal.com 2012-02-18 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
They've said some real assholish stuff on the blog, yeah, but two of the most recent posts are actually defending asexuals and pointing out that disliking the asexual community on tumblr and its awful rhetoric is not the same as hating all asexuals; in fact the posts were made to call out people who are assholes to asexuals (particularly off Tumblr) who haven't said or done anything wrong.

(Anonymous) 2012-02-18 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"Demisexuality" is a bullshit "orientation" that is nothing more than thinly-veiled slut-shaming. - second link

o___O The fuck.

[identity profile] closetospring.livejournal.com 2012-02-18 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
well, considering the definition of "demisexuality" (at least as presented by demisexuals on tumblr) is basically "I only am sexually attracted to/have sex with people I like"......

(Anonymous) 2012-02-18 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
That's not demisexuality.

Demisexuality is when a person experiences no sexual attraction, unless they have formed some deep profound bond with someone. It's not "I only am attracted to/have sex with people I like," demisexuality is "I suddenly experience sexual attraction toward someone when I have never before, and the trigger for this sexual attraction is the deep emotional bond with this person." Before the trigger, they were completely asexual, and for everyone else but the person they're attracted to, they are asexual. Demisexuality is a gray area for a reason.

[identity profile] closetospring.livejournal.com 2012-02-18 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
see, that makes sense, and I think that's totally valid. but a looooot of time it's presented like this: http://i.imgur.com/qR0vZ.png (see how the purple is completely missing, period, from the left diagrams) and quotes like

"But what pisses me off is that in today’s culture, is that they try to give these hypersexualized characters some sort of identity even though they are just existing to create sexual arousal— they are just sex objects. And I am deeply offended about that.

I am a real person with a real identity, emotions, thoughts, dreams, goals and drive. I am complex. And for someone to try to say that these hypersexual characters have an identity just like me is deeply insulting. Hypersexual characters just exist for sexual purposes, and I will not be put on the same level as them— I have an identity, they do not."

I think it's a whooole 'nother thing.

ofc tumblr/tumblr communities (where the above examples were pulled from) are their own, sometimes vastly different, animal but the quote anon was talking about it also from tumblr.

The image you linked is a faulty defining of demisexuality, no doubt. Since it is faulty, unless you want to piss people off (especially demisexuals who relate to the definition you said is valid), don't hold it against demisexuality.

I think demisexuality can be easily mistaken as invalid because it can unintentionally insult non-asexual orientations, since if not explained well, it can seem condemning of sex in general or saying that non-asexuals are shallow because they don't need the emotional bond like a demisexual would. Like those quotes especially, that isn't a good thing to say about non-asexuals. It sounds like a gross misunderstanding of sexuality by the person who wrote it, tbh. But that just what one asshole said, and their words are separate from demisexuality.

basically, the person who made that image and whoever wrote those quotes are just one or two people with faulty definitions of demisexuality. Don't equate them to all demisexuals.

[identity profile] closetospring.livejournal.com 2012-02-19 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
in my experience the two quotes are pretty representative of demisexuals on tumblr -- but you are right, that is not all of them. from my experience on other websites like lj, while much more limited, that seems to not be the case so much and I shouldn't fault everyone for it! I try to specify "tumblr [ace/whatever] communities" when talking about stuff like this but sometimes I fail to do so, and I especially should have done so this time since my comments are taking place on lj, and that's my bad.

eta: also, genuine thanks for being so polite about this!

Okay... the second one? About sex pollen? Not necessarily about rape. Depends on how it written, but it could just be about how weird it would be for someone who never "wants" sex suddenly "wanting" a whole lot of sex. (though this does sort of confuse "no sexual attraction" with "no sex"... unless sex pollen make you feel sexual attraction. and then it's weird in a 'I've never felt this before O_o' kind of way)

And I'm not defending the other links, both in the above comment and the other one below, because there's some really bad phrasing there... but at least one is talking about their own personal experiences with being assaulted and a number of people who consistently harass asexuals decided to throw their comment way out of proportion and apply it to everyone everywhere and completely ignore any intersection between our problematic misogynistic and heterosexist world and the issues asexuals may face due to sex normalization (because I agree that 'sexual privilege' is too strong of a phrase because it results more in marginalization than widespread, historic, societal oppression). Honestly, I find the idea that if a lesbian is raped to correct her sexual orientation it can be described on various levels like rape, misogyny, and homophobia, but if an asexual is raped, no matter if the person raping them specifically tells them it's to fix them, it has no baring what so ever on the fact that they're asexual a little ridiculous. It sure as hell isn't worse, but there could definitely be another level (different, not worse) where it was about them not experiencing sexual attraction. Most arguments that have a feeling of/or devolve into "blank" 'is worse for asexuals' tend to start out with 'I've had problems due to my asexuality' and then someone came and said 'no you didn't you unfucker! stop saying you've got it worse than queers!'.

I can see your point about the sex pollen, but that would be because under the influence of sex pollen you actually want and enjoy sex even though it's not consensual, so that would be weird for a person who doesn't experience that ever in their normal life, not because rape is less awful for people who like sex.

[identity profile] closetospring.livejournal.com 2012-02-18 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
sex pollen may not necessarily be about person a raping person b but it still fits into the rape culture/sexual autonomy/consent issue. the vast majority of sex pollen fics, in my experience, are about people being forced to have sex or else they keep being super sick/get super sick/nearly die/etc. that is not choice, and it is no worse for someone who is asexual to have no choice but to have sex than for someone who is "sexual."

I'm not seeing what you're describing in those posts. one of them mentions personal experience after a couple reblogs, it's not how it starts.
