7 and 14: Get over it and stop being fucking crybabies. I'm sick of all the yaoi and slash bashing here. Yaoi and slash are no better or no worse than het of the same quality. Don't like yaoi? DON'T FUCKING READ IT.

(As a side note, could we classify the OMG YAOI FANGIRLS EW and no-reason-for-hating-but-it's-gay secrets as personal attacks? Not all of us who like yaoi or slash like the way most of these secrets seem gendered -like a real man couldn't like slash? Fuck off and die already- and directed alike toward the prepubescent fanbrats WE find annoying too and toward those of us who do actually care about and contribute to our fandoms in a positive way that someone else just happens to find viscerally disgusting.)

25: Please consider therapy.

Whoa, whoa, WHOA. Simmer the fuck down. 7 I understand because the slash in the JTHM fandom has never, ever been in character, and that's the problem, not the slash itself. Fourteen is because 99% of the slash fans in the Naruto fandom draw the characters, well, like that, as in they look nothing like Naruto or Sasuke. Again, that is the actual problem.

As for people always saying "slash fangirls", it's just a stupid generalization, not a personal attack.

*wipes self off* Sorry about that. It's that the last post and its comments on a secret or two in it seemed to be an all-around "hey, let's call all yaoi fans stupid" bashfest right down to het fans accusing one secret poster of not having real-life intelligence.

I'm getting really tired of the idea that being anti-slash to the extent of thinking all fictional characters MUST be straight unless they're written like the Scissor Sisters or the Queer Eye guys or a seme and an uke, since it *is* a "port" of homophobia into fandom.

[identity profile] pretentioustfu.livejournal.com 2007-07-09 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
I'm saying this because (and no, I'm not the secret poster, I don't ID as a "her") most of the commenters zeroed in on that rather than considering the actual point of the secret.

[identity profile] maeda.livejournal.com 2007-07-09 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
lulz insecurity

[identity profile] maeda.livejournal.com 2007-07-09 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, and as for 25, I like how everyone is saying "therapy!" as if the secret poster hasn't already. Kinks don't need therapy unless they're hurting other people or really interfering with the person's life, and I'm assuming that neither is the case for this person.

[identity profile] maeda.livejournal.com 2007-07-09 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
*already considered.

[identity profile] pretentioustfu.livejournal.com 2007-07-09 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
About 25, I assumed that he physically CAN'T get off on something, anything else from the wording, and that's what the scary part and why I'm saying "therapy." If the only thing you can get off on is the thought of rape or murder scenes or torture, and nothing else gives you any pleasure at all. . . that's kind of scary IMO.

[identity profile] maeda.livejournal.com 2007-07-09 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I understand that. It is intimidating (only a little, considering that I have combined kinks that make the idea look like an episode of Sesame Street), but not necessarily therapy-worthy. I agree that therapy would be a good idea if that were the case and the person was looking for something, y'know, real, so as not to harm anyone else (unless they're into that, but I'm not paying the bail!). It'd also be a good idea if they are so focused on it because of unconsciously-remembered childhood trauma.

I still say they've probably already considered therapy, and if it didn't work or they're not interested, then whatever. It's not like they're the only one.

[identity profile] maeda.livejournal.com 2007-07-09 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
Have you ever seen that "Snuff Film" shirt on T-Shirt Hell?

Awww yeah baby.

[identity profile] pretentioustfu.livejournal.com 2007-07-09 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
*nods* And I agree with you there.

[identity profile] pretentioustfu.livejournal.com 2007-07-09 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
Oh OK, I understand now.

[identity profile] pretentioustfu.livejournal.com 2007-07-09 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
I'm referring to the comments on the pro-yaoi secret in the last post that bashed the poster (although posting her SAT scores wasn't a wise idea) and to the general idea that many of the "omg yaoi ruined my fandom" people promulgate that if people were real men and women, they'd write het, so they must be prepubescent fangirls.

[identity profile] pretentioustfu.livejournal.com 2007-07-09 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
All right. I apologize if I was. I've been in my share of fandom flamewars, and these just hit some sore spots for me (if you've ever been told, in all seriousness, to "get out of our sandbox" for writing a character as not in love with his fanon het romantic lead or to "stop ruining our fandom" for exploring his darker side, it's very easy to take offense to stuff like this).

I'm sorry.

[identity profile] pretentioustfu.livejournal.com 2007-07-09 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the Trigun fandom was a rather unfriendly place for slashers (especially twincest slashers, which I was somewhat at the time, I'd write KxV among other pairings) from around 2004 until around early 2006. Especially if you wrote Vash as anything but a walking stick of glitter-sugar and the kindest, most attentive boyfriend ever *headdesk* and you weren't friends with the right people. Things have definitely improved for now, but. . . I'm very sensitive to "hehe, het is like soooo much better you tards, 'cause it's canon and slash will never be" type stuff.

[identity profile] iamadoughnut.livejournal.com 2007-07-09 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
Oh god. Let's try pointing our newly learned gender theory indignation toward something that's an actual problem next time, shall we?

[identity profile] pretentioustfu.livejournal.com 2007-07-09 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
I've already apologized for it. Please look at the above comments.
