Not gonna lie, while I dislike Doctor/River Song, I feel like I could potentially get behind Doctor/River Tam if it was done right.

Star Trek/Doctor Who is a thing that is actually going to happen. Well, in comic form anyways, but it counts! Firefly/Who is not a far stretch, I think it's completely feasible. TARDIS lands in Serenity, see? Shenanigans happen, companion jokes and puns, the movie never happened, and River wanders around into the accidentally-conveniently left open door, because she's basically a cat with a Time Lord brain, and accidentally is a stowaway AGAIN. Adventures and other probably contrived stuff.

It can be Christmas Special themed.

I get the feeling that this would not be an "everybody lives ♥" story if he landed there and got involved. If we could just combine him with RTD and Moffat in a pot, maybe the resulting goop human could neutralize the sad, the wait-what, and the wait-wait-what, and produce the purest joy concoction crossover.

I'm still catching up on Doctor Who, and am quite frankly afraid of eleven and however the whole River Song story is going to unfold (just saw the episode where she was first introduced).

None of that matters, however, because now I want this fic, too. Only with River Tam and Ten. Or OMG Nine. River Tam and Nine would be insane!

I was in your position not too long ago but I've been pleasantly surprised at how much I like Eleven. Ten is still and likely always will be my favorite, but Eleven is awesome and I love his companions. And while I probably wouldn't ship Doctor/River on my own - they don't have the dynamic I prefer in my Doctor ships, exactly - I don't mind their relationship in canon at all. I like her on her own merits at least. So I wouldn't let the reputation of the Moffat era scare you, there's a lot to like.

Also man I think I could really take to Nine/River Tam. That would be the best ship.

I half agree. I don't get shipping someone as 'damaged' (for lack of a better word) as River with someone like Jayne (the character I most often see her paired with). I can't imagine that as a relationship of equals, I can't imagine him ever understanding her 'damaged' mind.

But the Doctor of Doctor Who? I think he could understand her. He could look through her madness, even understand it, and see who she really is. There's could be a relationship of equals because her brain could understand more of the Doctor's techno babble than the average human and he could understand her insanity, maybe even help her through it, help her heal.

That's why I can get behind this relationship, certainly more than River/Jayne anyway.

I read an awesome fic that was Firefly / Doctor Who. It was the 10th Doctor, and though he didn't do anything romantic, he and River still had a connection for being different from the rest of the crew. they had some adorable scenes together.
