Agender = no gender, I assume? And gender fluid would be what? Male on weekends and female on weekdays? Switch at midnight?

It's got to be hell filling out government forms.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-03-07 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
Pssst, your ignorance is showing.

It's only hell filling out government forms because it's already hell for trans people, both binary and non-binary, to have our genders legally recognized.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-03-07 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
Well, classifying yourself as "gender fluid" is just asking for a hard time, really. I can understand trans, and I can almost get my head around "agender", but gender fluid just smacks of "one category is not special enough for me".

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-03-07 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
You say that like it's a conscious choice.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-03-07 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Unless I am misinterpreting the meaning of the term (and no one's corrected me on it yet), being in a situation where you are sometimes male and sometimes female... is a choice. You have to decide "I think I'm a woman today."

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-03-07 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Just like you decided what gender you are, right? No. You're embarrassing yourself.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-03-07 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not embarrassed. I have decided, yes. I picked one. I didn't decide I need to randomly present myself as both male and female.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-03-07 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
And let me guess, the one you "picked" just so happens to match your genitalia?

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-03-07 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
In fact, it's the opposite.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-03-07 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, right, binarist trans people exist. I'd almost forgotten. Thanks for the sobering reminder.

If it was really a choice, why did you go through so much trouble? Do you live in some magical land where trans people aren't discriminated against? I know that sounds facetious, but I'm serious -- why in the world would you choose to be trans?

and could you just randomly switch, genuinely switch, on a whim? because the vast majority of people can't. it's a part of you like your skin colour is.

Fucking hell, THANK YOU.

THANK YOU for finally admitting that transsexuality is something deviants choose and not some ~born this way~ bullshit we should be coddling.

I'm bookmarking this thread for future reference.

Gender's not a choice, cisbro. That includes genderfluidity.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-03-07 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Explain to me how sometimes being male and sometimes being female does not involve a choice.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-03-07 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
The... same way that always being male or always being female does not involve a choice? It's not something you PICK. It's just how your mind IS.

I like how you frame it as sometimes male and sometimes female though. Because all genderfluid people are like that. They're never sometimes male and sometimes agender, or sometimes female and sometimes genderqueer.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-03-07 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly, if you can't make up your mind what you are, you need help. Family, friends, therapists. It does not make sense to just accept "sometimes I'm this and sometimes I'm that". It will be confusing for you (general 'you'), it will be confusing for those around you, it will result in a whole lot of angst in your life that you will be better off without.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-03-07 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
lol goddamn you sound like the people who say bisexuality isn't a thing

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-03-07 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
So... is bisexuality not real either?

What about biracialness?

Or intersex?

(You do know that gender comes from the chemical makeup of your brain, right? It's not something you randomly pick?)

What are the biological causes for genderfluidity? Is it physically measurable?

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-03-07 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
I just don't think that you can actually talk about genderfluidity since nobody in any kind of serious medical community uses it.

Don't government forms ask for sex rather than gender? That's how it works where I live, at least.

I don't know what's so hard to understand, the description seems pretty self-explanatory to me.
