I've seen plenty of fics with Dean as a soldier, and Castiel as the doting docile housewife (ugh). But there are far too few AUs where Castiel gets to be anything other than a mild-mannered [insert non-threatening job here], while Dean gets to be the badass [insert dirty, tough, manly job here].

I suck at writing Dean/Cas, but if I could, I would write a story where Cas was an elite soldier who was sent to rescue POW journalist!Dean, who was being held hostage by some nasty group or another. With emphasis on Cas being amazingly badass and Dean being clever but in over his head. That's just how I roll. :D

Why so many D/C AUs insist on Dean being the stereotypically manly man's man soldier when Castiel actually IS (or at least was) a soldier is beyond me. If you've got to declare that one of them is all manly and the other is all delicate, why not switch it up once and a while? Or better yet, write both of them as being the IC badasses that they are?

I would read that in a heartbeat. I think all the fics I've seen with the Soldier/Journalist thing are with Dean as the soldier and Cas as the journalist, which is disappointed. And also a bit confusing, because Cas would be completely terrible at interviewing people. Have we learned nothing from anytime he tried to work a case with the boys and actually tried talking to people?
