Sorry, but I can't put up a secret that isn't actually a secret because it's "the right thing to do morally" or because it's a good message or something. That's a precedent/exception that would be exploited really, really fast.

OK fandom secrets. Y'all got me started on this Mark Watches Buffy thing, and I have to say, he's not as irritating as some of you made it seem. His commenters OTH, oh my god, some of them are absolutely ridiculous.

Take for example, the person who just said Willow saying Buffy was "the real Slayer" was racist? And could never seem to explain why, beyond her own assertion that if Kendra had been white, there would have been no need for Willow to say it? Ridic.

Which brings me to my point. Am I the only one sick to death of all the times "Unfortunate Implications!" gets trotted out? Because, yes, some things DO have unfortunate implications, but I can't help but feel like a lot of what goes on is less about what's being implied and more about what's being inferred. And THAT'S on the person doing the inferring and rushing to judgment (seemingly because they're too damn miserable to see anything but the worst in everything).

Here's an example of an unfortunate implication: Xander's wounded pride over Buffy getting rid of Larry in Halloween followed by his own gratified takedown of Pirate!Larry later in the episode has the unfortunate implication that fighting, outcome bedamned, is a rite of passage for "real men" (and anyone who chooses not to fight isn't a man). I'm sure there are also many unfortunate implications regarding women, but this is the first thing that came to mind (omg, does that make me sexist?!)

Here's an example of an unfortunate inferrence: Buffy encourages Kendra to fly back to wherever on a plane -- in a seat, while watching and eating peanuts. The message MUST be that Kendra is some sort of backwater idiot because she's a foreign person of color! Racist!

What really happened: Kendra, who has never had much time for fun, arrived stowed away in a cargo hold because she wanted to keep her identity secret. Buffy encourages her to relax a little. The implication? Kendra's wound a little tight, and probably doesn't need to be. Does that have anything to do with her nationality? No. Her race? No. Her upbringing? Yeah. But by no means did the rest of the episode imply she was some severely messed up person because of it. She's just...wound a little tight...and just about everybody could use a person to point things out like that from time to time.

Ehh, once I realized they were doing that whole "these kids are practically the reincarnations of the first Vongola group" thing I lost interest. I usually liked the cheesy cliche stuff they did, but that pissed me off. :\

I haven't been reading it since then, but I'm sure you're right about it needing to go on a hiatus. And the bonus fandom reaction would be great. :)

Honestly? That kid strikes me as the type who would assume porno is true to life, and would try the most insane positions (which he could actually pull off!) assuming all holes are self lubricating and want it immediately.

The night ends with him nursing a red, stinging face gonig "yo what's yer problem?" as their angry would be partner storms off.

Before you get the "lol, nice?" comments: bronies really can be a good community! If you avoid all the wank, it's kind of amazing to see what that fandom does. All of the fanmusic, the charities, the general talent and the help you can get--it's pretty cool. This is coming from someone who isn't as into the fandom as I could be.

I think that can be true of the entire Internet, though. You can find communities dedicated to things that you're already into, that are close together and positive and consist of great people. Negative aspects usually aren't what defines a fandom, or a community. Even if they're sometimes frustratingly hard to find, there are little pockets of amazing scattered everywhere.

Even though I don't really go on Neopets anymore, I'm still so attached to mine. I have to put them in a good Neolodge room every month so I know they don't have their little sad faces, even when I'm not logged in.
I can definitely understand this, OP, though I don't think I'm too worried about anyone bothering to take my account. (Not many people really knew me on there, so they'd have to be actively checking random usernames.)

I find m/m or gen easier to write as well. I'm neither aromantic nor asexual, but I've been having very very bad luck at the relationship front since basically ever, and writing female characters in happy relationships drives home how very fucking much I'm not. Makes me go "why can't you be more like her? She's found the love of her life" which is ridiculous, because I'm writing the story, technically I found her the love of her life. Down that way lies madness.

So I write m/m because it's much easier to disassociate myself from the characters.

I can't sleep without listening to audiobooks, and they're usually of silly kids' books. I told my boyfriend I couldn't sleep without them, and so every time he stays over, or I go over to his, we listen to them. It's actually a bonding experience.

Cliche, but if he really likes you, it won't bother him. Just explain.
