I had a similar problem until recently. I would be tired, but my mind wouldn't wind down. Rather, it would speed up, and I'd begin obsessing and worrying. Music sometimes helped distract my brain. I've since begun taking medication that puts me to sleep 1-2 hours after taking it. Would something other than lullabies help, or is it specifically lullabies?

Specifically lullabies (I've tried new age, classical, soundscapes/ambience, etc). The whole singing-to-me-like-I'm-a-child thing is what I find to be especially soothing.

When I don't play it I have the hardest time getting to sleep. And it's not even that my mind goes a mile a minute or anything. I just feel like something's missing and I get antsy and it's too darn quiet. I CAN sleep without it, but it's always a rough sleep and the dissatisfaction makes me miserable in the mornings. I suppose it's akin to someone sleeping on a lumpy mattress with itchy sheets, waking up to no hot water, and running out of coffee beans shortly before having to rush out of the house.

I really don't want to resort to medication. Maybe a natural (mild) sedative might work.

You know what? I'm just going to talk to my bf. I don't want to give up my music. Frack/
