I've seen plenty of stuff coming out of the Brony fans that it actually turned me totally off the show. Watching a bunch of ableist assholes wave their privilege around over a character was one of the more gross things I've seen in awhile.

Thanks for insulting me while trying to "defend" me and others like me. I liked Derpy because she was like me. I have a voice that people pick on and call "retarded." I have eyes that don't look where they're "supposed" to unless I make a direct and concerted effort to do so.

Guess what? I'm also a klutz who means well and tries hard, but messes up frequently enough that others shy away.

At least I know I'm ableist for wanting to have a character I can identify with.

Just so you know- a fair amount of us who were bothered by the original version of that episodeare disabled people. Those non-disabled people getting accused of being 'white knights' charging to defend people who supposedly don't need defending? Our friends and allies. You're welcome to your opinion, but stop pretending we don't exist just because you don't agree.

I'm disabled too and I was fucking pissed off by how they treated Derpy. They used her as a joke, they turned her into a stereotype, and it made a lot of people really, REALLY uncomfortable. And I LIKE Derpy as a character, so it's not like I don't think she could have been done WELL-but she wasn't. At all.

you can't speak for all Derpy fans, and neither can those people who got all mad about others ~daring~ to be offended.

They're ableist because they were being privileged whiny douchebags, not because they wanted a positive portrayal of a disabled character (which they didn't and everyone fucking knows it, they just wanted a "retard" character to laugh at)

I felt slapped again when bronies insisted there was no possible way for Derpy to be seen as disabled. The only reason they changed their tune was to "save" her.
